Default Unclear subjects at edge of lenses?

Eh, im having this problem with my lenses. The subjects at the edge of the image always seem to be a bit "detached" if you get what i mean. Something like a person spltting slightly into 2 images. Im using 300D with the kit lenses and some cheapo UV filter on the lens. Is it because of the lens or UV filter? I can't seem to figure out why.

The first one was taken from the center, the other two, at the sides of the photo.

Or is it just focusing problems? But i already used f/16, i don't see the problem with that.

Erhmmm, maybe this wasn't good enough an example, but i can't post the others, got people's face on it. Dun want to infringe on their rights, if any. But it is just that when i take group photos, the people on the side always looks a bit out of focus. Any advise?

There could be a whole lot of reasons why that is happening. Perhaps you can try taking something else and post it again.

You could try stopping down the kit lens. It is definitely rather soft at anything below f8. So far i haven't experienced any distortion or softness at the edges with the lens.

Eh, stopping down? Meaning? *quite noobie still*
Anyway, my main problem is that it is sharp at the center of the image and rather soft at the image edges...

That means using a smaller aperture, bigger f number.

Try to use shoot with larger F, i.e. aperture values such as f/8 and above ...
