Just checked with Minolta Singapore and found out that Minolta Japan has DISCONTINUED manufacturing the grip replacement for the 700si.
Sad. Needed to get mine changed as cracks has surfaced. Grip sensors still works though, but not so aesthetically appealing anymore. ![]() Last edited by STShooter; 19th August 2004 at 11:06 AM. Reason: For easier understanding. |

Its the grip on the camera body and not on my Vertical-Grip. Cracks have appeared around the grip sensor. Will perservere and continue using my trusty, ugly and noisy 700si. (Also because I still can't get over the fact that the Dynax 7 is made in Malaysia and most importantly..........no money.) ![]() |

I'm all eyes and ears on the up-coming D7D, but I hope it'll live up to its hype. My lenses have been waiting a long time to be matted to a digital body. ![]() |

The hype is more from the Minolta community rather than from Minolta cos there hasn't been much news about the D7D.... |

Am sitting on the fence as I am waiting to see if the D7D is worth the upgrade before giving the Dynax 7 some serious thought. Still satisfied with the output my 700si is churning out. Golden rule: If it ain't broken. Don't fix it. Not worth the investment since the 700si isn't that bad afterall, although the Dynax 7 does have quite a few impressive advancements. Choices.....Choices.....Choices.........so many choices.......so little money. ![]() |

Hiee...
About pricing......i think Singapore is still relatively cheap. Unless you have sponsored trips to overseas.....to get your stuff.....then thats a different situation....its just being opportunistic. I did consider a full 700si second hand set early this year when i send in my dynax 7 for servicing. As i need an SLR for the trip.......i almost consider the 2nd hand 700si...but end up getting a D7 ....hehehehhe...!!....and sold the one send for service when i got back....... The 700si is almost equivalent to the D7 in terms of handling....therefore, i think upgrading does not make that much difference..... THe 700si focus is fast too......I have seen PROS using the 700si 800si .....great bodies.... rgds, Sulhan |

I use it with the 50mm and 80-200mm and the AF is fast. 50mm is relatively quiet and smooth, but the 80-200mm High Speed is quite noisy during focusing. Love the output from both lenses though. Of all the short-comings that Minolta has, their lenses and camera bodies are considered to be the most technologically advanced in the world. Kudos to them for the good, but slow work so far. ![]() |

??? Maybe you're lucky and landed a Japan manufactured set. When D7 first rolled out, all the units were manufactured in Japan. They have since shifted their production of the D7 to their plant in Malaysia. ![]() I held onto my 700si also partly because it was manufacutured in Japan. ![]() |
