Default Wide angle lens comparison

I'm looking for a wide angle lens for my D70 and bump into these 2 lenses

1.AFS 17-35 f/2.8D ED-IF.

2.AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED.

Can anyone tell me which lens I should choose base on
a)picture quality
b)value for money
c)build quality

Please advise, thanks in advance .

Btw what's the price of the lens?

List price for AFS 17-35 f/2.8 and AF-S DX 17-55mm f/2.8G is $3,600 and $2,700, respectively.

Think sykestang has 3 grey units selling in the buy/sell, at pretty good price

Default Thanks Gymrat76

I noticed that sykestang selling the AFS 17-35 f/2.8 at $2300(min bid)

Compare the two lenses which is a better buy?

Actually if you want a true wide angle for the D70, you might want to consider the AF-S 12-24mm f4, or the Sigma 12-24mm. A 17-35 or 17-55 gives you around 25mm on the wide end after taking into account the FoV, which might not be wide enough.

Why not get the 18-70mm ?. Not a bad lens.

True for the 17-35mm but I thought that the 17-55mm is a DX lens so it has already taken into account the 1.5crop factor.

Ummm.. no. The 17-55mm DX lens is still a 17-55mm lens. On an APS sized sensor digital body - you still will have the crop factor - the DX just means that the lens is designed with a smaller image circle in mind (thus they are able to reduce the size, weight and cost of the lens as compared to an equivalent focal length full frame lens)

Thanks all...

I feel that the view angle at 17mm is more than enough for me.

Call TCW for lens price:-

AFS 17~35mm f2.8D Nikon at $2550 (with GST).
AFS DX 17~55mm f2.8G Nikon at $2200 plus (no stock).

Both with 1 years shop warranty.

Anyone know which website has review the AFS DX 17~55mm lens?

From what I see 17-55mm every bit as good as the 17-35 except it is a DX lens.

When I am shooting with F100 I use 17-35 mm f/2.8. Now I am using D100, and I use 12-24 mm f/4 most of the times.

If you want a super wide consider 12-24 mm lens. You would not regret it...
