Default how to do hdr on sony a-55.... not the auto hdr

    Topic ^..

I can't find the 'Auto Exposure Bracketing'(AEB) on my camera ....
I want to manually HDR it.

The EV +/- button on my camera is used to adjust my aperture.

from what i see on other camera that button is used to as exposure compensation right..???

Go to the basics of exposure (we have newbie guides) and read your manual again. There is more than just Aperture priority mode. Read what the other modes do, think what you want to achieve.

The EV +/- button is to adjust your exposure compensation, not aperture. If you're in Program Auto, likely either aperture or shutter speed (or both) values will change. If you're in Aperture Priority, shutter speed will change. If you're in Shutter Priority, aperture will change..

edit: If you're taking bracketed exposures, not ideal to change aperture from shot to shot, as the DOF will be affected.

ISO may also change, depending on Auto ISO settings.

there's Bracketing in A33/A55. It's in the "Drive Mode". But the max difference between each exposure is only 0.7 stops

    Ahhh yes
The unused (for me) Auto-ISO feature.
    Actually quite useful at times.

The simple way is to use bracketing, but it offers less control over the difference in exposure.

I would recommend setting ur camera in Aperture priority, ISO set as a fixed ISO (not auto ISO). Then u can take a picture, adjust ur exposure compensation, and take another one (and so on until u happy).

Best way is to just set manual everything, IE set ur aperture to a fixed fstop, then use shutter speed to control ur exposure. Which is essentially the same as setting aperture priority and changing exposure compensation.

If ur camera does not support auto bracketing, you may meet problem when doing HDR with objects that has subtle movement in your frame. This will cause ghosting in your HDR image

So just adjust your shutter speed. Take 5 shots. No problem. :P

Actually, for HDR the number of shots depends on the dynamic range of the scene. Some scenes don't require HDR, some need 3 shots, some 5, some even more. It's not a magic number, bro

I know there is no magic number lah. I'm just giving him a basic number to start with.

    Yup.

Also, don't make the mistake of shooting one picture, then go photoshop and change the exposure and think you've got your 5 photos, it doesn't work that way. That doesn't increase the dynamic range of the photo, it merely deletes away details in your photos due to them being clipped to highlights or shadows.

pretty lost here. I was at tyersall house the other day playing with hdr. took 5 shots.
the effect didn't came out the way i wanted it. ended up playing with the surealistic preset in photoshop to come out with a different effect.

any advice on the dynamic range? when to do 3 or 5 shots?

It gets very technical. You gotta know/estimate the dynamic range that your camera can capture. Spot meter the brightest part of the scene, and do the same for the darkest part of the scene. Look at the difference in the stops of light, that will be the dynamic range of the entire scene.

Let's say, your camera is capable of a dynamic range of 10 stops of light. If the difference between the brightest and darkest part of the scene is, say, 14 stops, you need (theoretically) a minimum of 2 shots, one exposed for the highlights, one for the shadow areas. To be safe, go with 3 shots. In this case, if you capture 3 shots, they will need to be 2 EVs apart (one correct exposure, one 2 stops underexposed, one 2 stops overexposed)
