Yes. Too tight... And yes, 35mm is good for street too. Though I'll prefer zoom lens for versatility.

Buy the one that u have or can foresee an immediate use. Buy for the sake of buying is bad.... I learnt it the hard way...

Ah good call. I did that for the D300s and 105mm micro VR last weekend. Confirmed my decisions

Without a flash, you may have problem shooting low-light/indoor events. To me, the flash is like a necessity whilst the 35mm lens is more like an enhancement to your lens setup. It'll be good to get both but if I have to choose one first, then it will be flash.

that's what I'm thinking too. usually the lightings indoors aren't too huge a problem. a D7000 has some rather nice ISO settings with less noise. but only a flash can handle problems regarding bright backgrounds - considering you're quite a distance from your subject, that is

since you have the 18-105, try shooting on the streets with 50mm only and see if its okay with you. Similarly, try 35mm as well and see which one you prefer.

Good idea, the only diff from the primes will be dof and overall brightness. Can safe money renting lens too.

True, though I'll probably tweak it by accident all the time

fix the zoom ring to 50mm/35mm and use a small piece of gaffer tape to secure it then. I do the same to my tokina 11-16 as i can only use 16mm on FX since 11-15 causes vignetting.

Not exactly the way I'll like to treat my lens ~.~ it's my kit lens so it's kinda important for the streets

you can always remove the gaffer tape anytime. It doesnt damage your lens in anyway.

seems like you still prefer zooms. Guess that should answer your question of flash or prime.

I just haven't used prime so lenses with a nice zoom range is quite precious now. I don't just do streets though so primes still come in handy
