Need some input here for experienced users. What kind of Nikon equipment would I need if I would like to take fast continuous shots with flash, much like those journalists use?
Can D100 (or the coming D200) w/ vertical grip + SB800 do the job? |

The SD8A is the power pack for the Sb-800 if I'm not wrong... |

d100 is 3fps.... still relatively fast for some action la.. but u will definately miss lots of shots for SPorts tat is... vertical grip doesnt enhance the speed though... so
basically the main thing is shutter lag, focus speed and of course the buffer.. the larger the buffer, the lesser time u need to transfer the image into the CF. d100 has some shutter lag... which will very deadly for sports which u will definately miss some action, but u will get used to the 3fps... d2h is a 8fps, with a high torque cam, and if equipped with a AFS lens.. that will be super fast.. but still on par with 1Ds MKII, different system however, but the canon 1ds MKII has a high MP, with 8.5fps, which is the fastest in the world, and also the so called "most expensive" DSLR yet.... ![]() |

Well regardless of the fps, what about the write speed. Suppose you shoot a series of continuous shots, after that, while the images are being written onto the CF, can I still shoot simultaneously?

For all the cameras, yes, as long as there's sufficient buffer on the camera to store the images temporarily whilst writing to the CF. Just that the professional series have a larger buffer than consumer cameras.
Canon's 1D MKII 8.5fps is the best fps you'll get, it doesn't sustain at 8.5fps all the time. Also, in accordance to writing speed, the 1D MKII considerably slows down and the buffer lessens when the ISO is pushed up. All cameras have shutter lag, just that on the professional end cameras, the shutter lag gets shorter and shorter. Btw, this is not a bashing thread, just sharing some facts since the speed was brought up. |
