Thinking of getting this lens for my D70. Anyone knows if it is available? Friend told me should be in Sept and AP told him price is ard $180. Can this be true? The 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC is around that price too, so I am wondering should I wait ... do advise

I would expect the price to be around the region of $1,100-1400, considering the price of Nikon's 18-55 F2.8DX. Also waiting for this lens to arrive in Singapore.

The 18-125 F3.5-5.6 was announced in May 04 and it was available one month ago, the 18-50 F2.8 was announced in July, should be available next month, based on the previous experience.
My estimation of price, based on: 1. The 17-35mm F2.8-4 is selling at around $700, 2. The 18-125 but F3.5-5.6 is selling at around $550. 3. 18-50 F2.8 should be priced higher than 1. but since it is for APS camera, it should be cheaper than full frame of similar category lens. I estimate around $700. Will definitely get one when it is available in Singapore, then sell away my 17-35mm Sigma. |

DC means it is for the DSLRs with APS-sized sensors ( 1.5x or 1.6x). (i.e. the lens is not suitable for full frame cameras )

found another link with the price... http://www.ajpurdy.co.uk/ . Click on Sigma on the left menu and scroll down to the lens.
its stated as £339.99 (sterling pounds). Again using AsiaOne conversion, its S$1,071.38 |

Thats quite cheap considering the Nikon 17-55 is over $2000. The Sigma even has better close focusing (28cm compared to 36cm). Of course AF speed will be a different issue.

Slightly over 1k is too expensive for this lens, unless it is even better than the 24-70EX and 24-60EX. I hope that is the list price coz it is taken off Sigma's website. Street would be in the $700 range?

Any news or update when it is available in Singapore?
For me, it will be either Nikon's 18-55 F2.8DX or this. Wonder how will be the quality, sharpness,AF speed as compare to nikon 18-55 F2.8DX which cost $2.2k.
