Jetstar no problem. I also hand carry my dslr. If bringing the dslr with a camera bag, just be reasonable size.

why do people strap their DSLR on the necks during take off and landing???

I thought that is kind of dangerous. There is a reason why they need us to stow away the luggage properly during take off and landing.

I can imagine how dangerous it will be if there is a problem with the take off and landing with a DSLR flying around strapped to your neck....

I just always chuck my bag at the top luggage compartment. What is wrong with that?

Did it many times without problems. But like I mentioned before, it is more the ground security crew that oftens give you the trouble more than the airline itself.

    i use jetstar quite often..
they will allow for laptop and camera bag and no really strict for that..
just show the camera if they ask...

    carrying tripod on board?
it depends on the ground crew..sometimes they asked me to leave my tripod with them and i can collect once i arrived.
and the thing is i always forget to bring my tripod bag...so i carry it naked...haha

Not all places allow a tripod to be hand carried on top the plane... recent article on Taiwan had stated that a tripod of more than 25cm cannot be allowed to be hand carried and must be checked in. So it is not just a regulation of airline but immigration too. So it is better that you check out airline and also country or places immigration regulation.

But from what I know, DSLR should be no problem.

not sure if anyone have experience this before, is it ok to hand carry the dslr (with or without toploader aw) through out the flight??

hand carry = not inside plane overhead cabin.. hold on my hand / strap over my neck

oh yea, if u have hand carry with toploader before, do let me know the size/model
definitely it's ok... i did that for my trip to hongkong... it's just like another "bag" and there is no need for you to put in the overhead cabin...

just be careful of air turbulence, the camera might jumps up and hit your face?

Personally, no one stopped me before so I would say it is allowed to bring your DSLR on board.

It's not the airlines that restrict, but the ground staff.

It is ok to carry a DSLR in the aircraft. Just don't let the Flight Attendant see you snapping pictures of the cabin or using it during Take-Off or Landing
