Default I am interested to print out a picture of my gf

    Hi.

Just started out photography few mths back. Have been shooting with raw at 18megapixels. I have a few candid close up shots to print out.

I need help! I want to print out a poster size image. Issit true that pictures shot at 18m is clearer than pics shot at <18m?

Can a normal photo shop around our neighbourhoods print out poster size/8R or super 8R images?

Need help! where is a recommended place also?? thank people!

I wouldn't say pictures taken with 18MP cameras are clearer/sharper than those shot with 5MP cameras because such things depend on way more than MP count. Yes, resolution is higher. I'm not sure if I'm phrasing this the right way, but a shot taken with a 5MP camera is surely likely to result in poorer print quality as compared to 18MP, for 8R photos.

Most neighbourhood photo shops are able to print out these sizes. I wouldn't recommend any particular one since there're way too many I've yet to visit, but the others may. :)

the pixel count will be relevant for big prints (i.e. 8R) but not so much if you only print 4R.
in most cases, a 5MP image will lose the details for anything bigger than 4R prints.
is using a digital camera that works ...

I understand 300dpi (dots per square inch) quality would be sufficiently good.

So if your resolution is 3000 x 2000 or 6mp, it can print 3000/300 = 10 inch by 2000/300 = 6.6 inch picture at good quality.

There is a shop at West Coast Plaza that prints enlargements. For

example, A4 size cost $1.50. The largest poster size print is $24. I just

    printed them 2days ago.

8R = 8" x 10", which isn't in the correct aspect ratio for DSLR images.
I think most DSLRs are using 3:2 ratio, which means S8R (8" x 12" if I'm not mistaken) is the correct size if you don't intend to alter the aspect ratio.

I reckon 5MP is sufficient for an even larger print than S8R. Having more MP would not necessarily make the image sharper at those sizes. If you're talking about MUCH LARGER (eg. 20+" on the long side), then you'll need > 6 or 8MP.
Is TS intending to send the RAW image file for print?
anyway 4 days liao since thread started. Maybe printed already.
    Exploring! :)

Image quality has little to do with megapixels. If this is the case, a 20 megapixel P&S would outperform a 8 megapixel DSLR. This is not going to happen in the near future.

Recommend Triple D @Burlington Square. Rather good printing, though not the cheapest.
