Default Moon shot

I am just testing my lens. The moon is to far away to get a real close-up view of it. BTW does anyone know when is the best time to shoot the moon. When will the moon be closest to earth. I've seen it once from my house but don't have my camera with me. It hung like a big baloon above the horizon. Appreciate any information you may have. Thanks.

It's just a matter of perspective. The moon looks bigger when its near the horizon because you have something to reference it to, like a building or tree. but when's its right smack in the middle of the sky, there's nothing around it but the big black sky, so it looks small to you.

Of course, the moon can appear bigger when it moves nearer to Earth, but the increase in size is just a matter of a few percentages.

Worst time is when it is full moon, cannot see much details of the moon when everywhere is so bright

Half moon and lesser will be the best, more details on the moon can be seen

eg. my shot of a new moon
