Cool Minolta Dimage RD 175

I own a Minolta Dimage RD 175 with an apparent corrupt PC card, or at least when I look in the trouble shooting part of the manual the display indicates the problem is a corrupt card. I bought a new card but my delimma is that I have a MAC computer that can not initialize a new PC card and I have not found any source that can possibly initialize a new card for me. Any RD 175's out there who can offer any suggestions? I just need to know if it's a PC card problem or a camera problem. - oaka1

Do you have SCSI on your mac? If so, try to format the card using the RD-175 control program. Otherwise, try to find a friend with a PC laptop and format the card in his computer (using FAT). I think this will work... the RD-175 is a bit grumpy about cards, sadly...

Yes, get someone with notebook to format it.

I don't know whether this is widely known ....
but the RD175 ( at least mine ) should easily take most combination of a CF->PCMCIA adapter and a 128mb CF card
I have used Sandisk 128mb CF cards + either a Sandisk PCMCIA
adapter or a Ridata Adapter successfully.

Just bring you laptop + Scsi cable + Camera along when you
go shop for CF cards to test on the spot if the combo works : )
no more restriction to PCMCIA Harddisk...

When formatting the cards, can you use FAT32 or do you need the older plain FAT version? - OAKA!

I don't even know what FAT version is used,
cause you just connect the camera to the PC/Mac
run the software on the PC/MAC, select "Format Card"
and via SCSI, the card in the camera will get formatted....

no need to "pre format" the card in the PC
if that's what you mean...

Btw, shouldn't a Mac support SCSI naturally ?
Do you have the Mac software ?

The software for the camera is no longer supported with the OS system I now have on the MAC so I have to find another way to format the PC card. I have bought a Sandisk CF 128 disk, adapter and reader to solve the problem. Thanks Lam - oaka1
