Default Tamron 18-270 or Nikkor 18-200?

Hi guys, I've been doing some research on what lens I should get next, and I think that these would serve me well.

Any users with experience with these lenses, or any one of them could give me some advice?

    Thank you.

The newly released Tamron 18-270 PZD VC has been getting tons of rave reviews. You might want to check it out.

I've been using the Nikkor 18-200mm. It's a very good single lens walkabout solution for travel or if you don't like switching lenses. It's a bit expensive ~1000 sgd, but build quality is quite a bit better than the 18-55 and 18-105 lenses, while IQ is similar or even a bit lower.
The Tamron 18-270 PZD atleast according to the reviews I read brings the AF speed to be on par with the Nikon lens. Didn't find too much about IQ, but it goes till 270mm as opposed to the 200mm of Nikon. It's also lighter than the 18-200. On the whole, it might be a good lens to have. The only thorn in the side is the price, which is currently a bit higher than the Nikon 18-200mm.

If I'm not wrong the Tammy PZD's price range is around the same as the Nikkor.

I'm just worried about AF speed. ):
And I'd say the IQ is comparable to the Nikkor.

Why not try them both out at a shop before deciding?

That's what I'm gonna do in an hour's time or so.

I just wanna find out some underlying problems of the PZD and how good the Nikkor really is. (cause I'm straying more towards the Tammy)
I feel kinda bad if I just go and try, so I know I won't spend long there, haha.

Wow, horrible service by both shops that I went to. Alan Photo and TK Foto.

Alan Photo's salesperson kept me waiting for 5 minutes, and when I finally got attention, I asked to look at the Tamron 18-270. I got a condescending look, probably because I'm just a teenager, and he asked me whether I knew how much it cost in a cynical tone. He then walked off and I was so frustrated I left.

Went into TK Foto, asked whether I could try out the Tamron 18-270, I received a flat out no.

Horrible service, and I'm definitely not going back to those shops again.

As far as I know TK Foto do not have lenses for customers to try out. You can only try if you are confirmed buying. Then, you can try the lens before paying to make sure it is ok. If you want to try to see how the lens feel, you can go to John 3:16.

That I understand, but the service and Alan Photo was seriously absurd. >_>

    Yep, going to John tomorrow.

Hi, i just got 18-270 last week from AP, they quote me $1020 + $30 Hoya HMC UV filter.
Service is quite decent, maybe because i go at friday and the store is not crowded. I usually won't go to AP too, but TK gave higher price and SLRR doesn't have stock.

So i came, looking for a vacant sales person, ask for the lens and the price, then bring out my camera to test a few shots with and without VC. Close the deal 10 minutes after.

I quite happy with this lens for daylight - outdoor travel lens only. The autofocus is quick and silent (at daylight). VC works superb since i can do handheld shot at 270mm end. Indoor or night shots, i'll switch back to 50mm f1.8 or trusted 18-50 f2.8.

I don't know why the color reproduction is too white, either lens or body issue, but changing white balance from Auto to Shade or Cloudy do the fix for most shoots.

Both indeed have a good IQ.
    Used to own 18-270.
do take note that at certain focal length the ring to turn is quite stiff.
    lens do creep at times..
my 2 cents worth of opinion...

I decided to get a 70-300 VR instead to suit my telephoto needs with more ease.

Thanks for all your valuable output though! (:

It's a lovely lens. Sold off my 18-200 mostly due to the overlap with 70-300. 70-300 was easily the better lens.
    Happy shooting.

Hmm not sure how fast is the PZD but the previous one already works pretty well.
