Default Samply Underwater Photos from Olympus XZ-1

Disclaimer: Most of these photos are taken by Mr Mel Lee as I was having problem using my DSLR setup for the 1st time. For a full review on the camera... look for the reviews from the other Moderators.

Underwater photos has been taken with the standard Olympus underwater white balance. No underwater Strobe light was used with the XZ-1 and all flash photos are by XZ-1's built-in flash only.

Non of the photos had been Photoshop beside resizing.... no crop or anything else.

While we did took some Wide Angle shots... sadly, almost none of them turn out well due to water condition at most of the dive site. But the capability of the XZ-1 is most impressive for close-up underwater photography. Photo #23 is beyond what my old Canon Powershot is capable of... the full size photo is clear and sharp and alittle cropping would have shown details of this little shrimp.

If I was to upgrade my old PnS powershot... this camera would be one.

The trick to prevent backscatters is to move in real close... as as close as possible. Of course.... water condition is just as important.

    Hi,

Can I check with you guys on XZ-1's underwater HD video capability? Did you actually shoot any video underwater with it and if so, how was it?

Did you use the Olympus flash diffuser (PTDP-050) or just the modified XZ-1/PT-050 flash?

Also, I am very curious about the video quality as well.

    Thanks,

We just use the standard diffuser that comes with the casing... I've only manage to get hold of the set, less than a week before my trip. Hardly have time to learn all the function of the camera.... no time at all to do any mod...

As for video... quality is average deep underwater (below 10 metres). Its also abit too grainy and dark. This could be due to setting on the camera and underwater condition.... which wasn't so good on our trip.

Personally... I consider this as one of the better PnS camera for both land and underwater photography. And NO... you can't have everything you wanted on any one camera... something will always have to give.

    Hi.

Does anyone know how this compares to the Canon S95 underwater?

Also, heard that autofocus was a bit slow. Was this true when you were testing?

    Thank you
