i honestly do not think its that complicated.

its simply a matter of someone overlooking the different currency.

    that is what i c
The figures look clearer after u convert everything to SGD
    K-r
    SGD 717
    USD 799 = SGD 1038 bigger figure
    K-5
    SGD1750
    USD1599 = SGD 2078 bigger figure

I think what you're saying is that K-r is cheaper in SGD, while K-5 is cheaper in USD...

You make it sound like K-5 is cheaper than K-r in US..

So simplistic ar, like that I buy French Fries in SGD in Singapore cheaper than USD in America, means every single item on the MacDonald's menu will be cheaper in SGD in Singapore as compared to the figure for USD in America...?

There are other things in the equation, like I said. Taxes, shipping costs. There is no such thing as Emjay receiving teleported K-5/K-r from America directly without going through customs, and having negligible transportation costs. Additional taxes on the sale price could lead to a widening of gap for price differences, if you haven't realised by now. For example, for a $800 difference, an additional 1% tax would give rise to a $8 difference.

To me, looking simplistically at things can sometimes lead to massive confusion. The issue here is the approach - it attempts to view different country's dollars as on par in context within the country. The truth is not as simple as that. How can you understand what is going on if you choose to find a quick answer to say, complicated issues such as cancer?

Then u need to communicate more clearly.

Copy a laundry list of prices, no head no tail then say u xien 1/2 and u expect pple to read your mind?

it sound like an economic thread liao..maybe we can ask the undercover economist to solve this?

since i am talking abt economics..i guess its the supply and demand thing? US market bigger so they can import more sets plus pple in US would demand k5 more since they have winter season and they need the WR?

I was just trying to understand what his original question was; and I think from all the responses its clear that there are many many things involved when determining the price of items

Well, someone has to think, right?

If it's so simple as putting up a few numbers and thinking you can draw some huge revelation about life from it, then sorry...

It's nice to think that Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything is 42. Unfortunately, it's not.

Maybe you should think about it this way - every other photographic product I've seen costs more in SGD than USD. Do we agree? Now, the K-r is an anomaly here, it costs LESS. Is that a good thing? Would you rather that it be normal?

Was answering to TS original question, since he seems to think the world of your interpretation, I assumed it to be correct.

That whole passage about "no arbitrage" (in short) was directed at him, not you. Cheers.

TS, looking at the two threads you started about the K-r and K-5, I'll make a guess here:

You want to buy K-r, but after looking at the USD prices, you simply buay song that K-5 seems like the better deal in Singapore, even though both cameras are already significantly cheaper in SGD than in USD. So now you're very torn, should you just get the K-r which is all you need/want, or spend extra money just to get "the better deal"?

Am I right, or am I thinking too much also? Since you have the $ (implied in the other thread), just get the K-5 lah.... If knowing that you got "the better deal" means so much to you that you started this thread to complain about your dilemma, you won't be happy settling for the lousier deal even if it's going to cost you less $.
My photos - see just some or all of it =)
