roger Stereobox, thanks for your ans and advice.

Its becoming quite sad for me right now, my family don't really support me of taking this line as career, they urge me to find any part time job better than keep on searching for PA job.

whats more, my sister has took an application form for me and ask me filled up then go for interview. I feel that this is too sudden and being force to work what she want me to work as.

Please do drop me a line at the_gestapo@yahoo.com and i will give you a call whenever i need assistants. Sometimes it is paid sometimes if for test, then you will have to sacrifice pay for learning more.

    Thanks!

Thw whole idea is very simple. Make sure you become a high paid photographer before your family breaks your will. If you can't, you lose. This is a simple fact of life. If you don't have the guts, don't bother to try in the first place. Do something else instead.

Hi Guys, Just joint CS and still fiddling around.
Heard so much about CS so I joint and stumble into this discussion.
I'm impress with Sterobox knowledge of this vocation and his advice is very valid.
I'm a practicing professional photographer for almost 20 yrs.
Pick up photography when I was 12.
My mom think I'm "seow" and "waste momey" on all the films.
Because in those day we can't check the LCD to delete those that was over, under or wrongly compose.
I just folow my feeling and decided to take that step into the light.
Like they said, the rest is history.
Delson: My advice to u. Make sure that what u feel is the true love (passion) and not an infectuation. I had seen many people taking up photography, invested in equipment and than gave -up. It's more competitive now than b4. Making ends meet when starting out can be tough going. That's part of your trial. Speak to any success pro and most likely they will have some life stories to tell.
1st you must learn the ropes and not be "half pail of water" as many "photographers" think they had seen all. The truth is I'm learning from every shoots I do, though the learning curves is much different now. Don't be a frog in the well.
If u r looking for a job as PA, u can pm me, if u are looking for personal advice, u can l also pm me. U can try working for a pro and see if this is the life you can take. If u r in your 20s' u have planty of chance to venture into other directions. Never try never know.
    Good luck.

thank you teecee for sharing with us your experience! and welcome to the club!

i totally agree with the 'learn the ropes and not be 1/2 pail of water". as a photographer, especially a professional one, they must be able to deal with most, if not all, situations..although sometimes they tend to 'specialise' in certain niche.

one might have done the same kind of shoot before, over and over, but never be complacent..because every shoot have something to learn from (although maybe not as many as when you started out).

every photographer i've followed all have their own styles n ways of doing things. each time i join a new photographer, i thought i know a lot already..but in actual fact, i'm barely scratching the surface of the surface. that is why i feel working experience and on-the-job education is very, very important.

hope teecee can provide us with more advice for people aspiring to be professional photographers.

    Good to feel welcome.
I will help contribute my few cents worth of comment and experience when possible.
This seem like an intresting place to meet some ppl. At least the ppl here talk sense.
My wish for S'pore photography scent is the improvement in standard and creativity.
Ppl with diginity and stop undercutting each other. So that those who are making a career can "tarn chert" (find food). There are freelancers who come into the industries do jobs at low, low, prices spoiled the clients/market with the low, low, price. When they find that they cannot "tarn chert" as they are not making ends meet they just left the industries with the impression for the clients/ market to think that they can get photographers to shoot at very low, low rates.
Now what will happen to those who are working full time with rent to pay and family to feed?
So those freelancers, have compassion for other photographers who want to "tarn Chert" and be able to buy that newer camera and lens or the latest CS.
Working with real pros does not only taught (pros-to-be) the ropes, they will also learn the ethics of the trade and the correct pricing.

Hi Bro TeeCee, you sound so season on this industry.
Just wondering whether we can visit your work's place or not sure whether you have a studio. Probably you can show us around and give us one or two tips...

I don't mind showing you guys around. I work in a studio of 2,300sqft. At the moment my schedule is quite tight. I don't mind sharing some working experience with you and show u around.I'm working on the time.
Can some one tell me if you guys prefer to meet on Friday evening or Saturday afternoon?
Just for coffee and chit chat at my studio.
Stereobox or sdx4670r, can one one of u help me coordinate?
Pm me and I'll give you my address. Can't have the whole of CS decend into the studio. That will be too big a gathering.
