    Hi,

I think I cannot make it coz of timing. Will be away most of Aug, so cant make it. I would suggest someone maybe take a video, and cant post the video for future replays for newbies as a video tutorial.

Oh anyway if anyone's feeling slightly loaded and want to attend a full 2 day course on the basics of Photoshop (or any other Adobe or Macromedia software, for that matter), I would personally recommend the Best I.T. Service company (BitS) in Shenton Way. They're the authorised training centres for both the brands, and their trainers are all certified by the companies themselves. I've attended 3 of their courses so far (Photoshop, Flash and Fireworks, all sponsored by company), and I must say, each time I've been pretty much satisfied with the course content, quality of the trainers, provided computer systems (each class consists about 8 people, each working on pretty new systems like P4 2.8G with 18" LCD or iMac). The trainers are quite competent, and most importantly, patient. They won't move on till everyone in the class has managed to complete the task at hand.

As a rather seasoned PS user, I went into the PS class expecting to be rather bored, but as it turned out I learnt quite a few new stuff as well (shortcuts, et al..). Photoshop CS offers so much more in terms of features, especially for digital photographers, and many which weren't present in the past versions of PS.

If anyone's interested, here's the website of the company (no I do not work for them, just that I thought that it might be worth sharing):
    BitS

Might not be that cheap, but i guess if you can get your company to sponsor you it might be worthwhile.

I attended a 2-day PS course at BitS more than a year ago. Though I learnt quite a bit of the basics, I found that emphasis of the course was more on general PS skills (e.g. selections, design, layers, special effects) rather than focussing on needs of digital photographers (basic/advanced adjustments, touch-ups, etc). Most of the attendees were sponsored by their companies which are mostly in the design/graphics/advertising industries. In the class I attended there was no one really interested in photography except me.

I understand what you mean. I guess the course was more to cover the basics like selection tools, paths, etc..rather than the specialised function for photo editing. Remember, prior to the CS version, the emphasis on Photoshop was not so much concentrated on digital photo imaging. It was only with CS that things like Photostitch, lens filter etc were introduced. Anyway, the one that i attended was for the CS version of Photoshop and they do cover about half a day on photo retouching and stuff. And I understand they cover much more in-depth in the Advance Techniques for Photoshop course (which, incidentally, costs quite a bit more too). Oh yes, I was given a brochure for a course called Photoshop CS for Digital Photographers. Think it's new, covered over 2 days:

    Outline:
    1) Intro to PS
    -Sys. req
    -Navigation
    -Using menus, tool bars, workspace

    2)Organising images and digital negs
-creating a set of digital negs
    -organising images via contact sheet

    3)Selection techniques
    -Making and modifying selections
    -working with the pen tool

    4)Working with layers
    -adding, duplicating and deleting layers
    -reordering and flattening layers

    5)Cropping & resizing
-Understanding dimensions in relation to the size of a conventional photo
    -cropping and straightening photos
    -repairing keystoning issues
    -creating panoramas

    6)Fixing digital image problems
    -Compensating under and over-exposed images
    -removing red eye
-removing signs of age and whitening teeth
    -de-emphasizing nostrils
    -transforming frown into a smile
    -Slimming
    -matching ambience btw 2 images
    -adjusting colour casts

    7)Extracting images
    -extracting objects from their background
-using Quick Mask to enhance extraction

    8)Special photographic effects
-Simulate the effect of standard photographic lens filter
-Adding motion where you want it

I gotto agree with you. i think there is lack of ps courses(at least not that i know of) whose main focus is on post processing of photos ? thats why im looking forward to ones offered by willy.. I guess/hope his materials do cover some tips to touch up digital photos.

No offence no. Pls ignore me if this post sounds demanding

I should be able to take in at least 20 per session..
For the others just add your names, I'll arrange more sessions if there is a demand. Volunteers would be great if we manage to secure a classroom with PCs for hands-on. Anybody has any contacts?
