Firstly, this was a 3 shot HDR, and the above pic was the middle average.

Clearing up the haze is not difficult. Basically the main pic consisted of a lot of mid tones. You should be able to see this in the histogram.
You can use curves to pull in the dark areas and bring back the light areas, just make sure that the histogram extends to the top and bottom end of the graph.
Then you adjust saturation selectively (try not to use global), choosing each color and boosting according to your feel/preference.

    Flatten the image then sharpen.

Pardon my saying so but....................being able to clear up all that haze in PP, that's almost like cheating!!

Kudos for expertly turning a gloomy shot into a beautiful one!

LOL...as I mentioned, the above hazy shot was one of a series of bracketed shots which I used in Photomatix to get the final shot.
Its sometimes amazing what HDR can do to get back the full spectrum of colors, withoutu which, it would have been a terribly gloomy day.
We climbed up this mountain trail 南黄古道 and got soaking wet because of the pouring rain. This shot was on the other side of the trail coming down.
Apart from the slippery rocks, mosquito attacks and miserable wet feeling, I tell you, this was really a sight to see.
Just as we got to this path, the rain stopped and the skies opened, so I managed to get these shots.
Just looking at this scene, I totally forgot all the misery coming down that trail, so yes, it was worth it.

One thing is that a cloudy day would have completely masked the true color spectrum that is visible on a clear day, so with HDR (cheating?) I was able to recover the detail that was there. This shot was also cleaned up/enhanced in photoshop, so, its not just HDR.

As we grow/learn in this hobby, I have found that the digital darkroom side is equally important to the photographer as is the photo shooting. One cannot go without the other.

    Hi Fless, thanks

No plugin was used, this is what I did:
    - The pic was converted to BW with Silver Efex
    - added 3 layers of texture (for the old paper look), blending mode - multiply and overlay (you can play with it and choose the one with the best result), opacity 40%-60%. texture can downloaded (free) online or you can create your own.
    - lastly, i used a scanned old torn envelope for the border and crumpled effect, blending mode - overlay
