Lol, it is well-known that a lot of photoshoppery goes into portraits..

It is good when you can't tell that it has been done.. Though of course, not every celebrity has smooth skin, perfect body, etc.

Here's a link you guys may find funny. After all, it's related to this thread.. As a negative example.

I actually quite like the before shot too, maybe up the contrast, add a bit more green and it's a different kind of look

Removed the distracting flourescent lights cast and background color to enhance the play on fire

Another example of manual blending in Photoshop - no filters used.

this thread is a treasure trove of information! And insights to how the masters work =)
Have to slowly spend time to get through this thread, and I think really need to have some background knowledge to understand what is going on
Thanks for the experts for sharing!!!

anyway would like to share my newbie try, critique welcome! Shot on a overhead bridge, handheld cos only had my compact P&S with me and liked the sunset colours. Wanted to show the nice flowers on the bridge with the sunset colours (=p probably trying too much in 1 image). Tried some techniques learnt from online and books.

    Original:

120610 sunset original by knowenoughhappy, on Flickr

Edit 1 - same image, used fill light added vibrance/saturation, amazed how much the RAW data in the compact holds =)

120610 sunset edited by knowenoughhappy, on Flickr

Edit 2 - blended 2 images taken 4 stops apart, the 'Original' was the darker image

120610 sunset by knowenoughhappy, on Flickr

Edit 3 - used the built in HDR processor, with the 'Original' + 3 more brighter images each 2 stops brighter. When zoomed in the high contrast transitions got funny colour blocks, dunno how they got there or to remove them

Definite nowhere near the quality of the masters here, just sharing and maybe everyone can learn from the comments =)

    Hi Thoongeng

You can pull so much details out of the darkness, which PNS are you using, amazing!

How about a portrait. didn't bring strobes or any flash and the model's skin is flawed, so I deliberately shot at certain aperature to make it dark then bring back the details of the RAW to make it look like it's been scanned from a mag page. Nothing special, just some tricks and manipulating lens through natural light
