chercm, i think your first picture is well taken, sometimes the surrounding background must be seen so that the location where the shot took place can be remembered.

Ah... ic. So background blur is just the level of blur, and bokeh is the artistic level of the blur, am I right to say that?

    thanks for explaining

turn your dial to portriate and shoot agian..

if you using manuel, i suspect is the focusing point.

    it is possible.

    almost there

not really artistic, but the quality: whether it's pleasing, harsh, distracting etc..

TS, you need to understand the concept of DOF and hyperfocal distance..

setting the widest aperture alone may not make the background blur if the subject and the background is too far away from the camera..
all lenses are capable of background blur, you just need to know how.. it is not impossible even to make background blur at f/8..

turning to portrait mode doesn't help if you are unsure about the concept of DOF..

relationship between camera-subject-background distance will determine the amount of blur..

Think someone above highlighted this: in the first photograph, are you sure you want to "blur" out the building at the back? I think it's as much the focus of the photograph as your wife.
