Hi kriegsketten, absolutely agree with you, never go to Apple. Stay with your Mocrosoft. It great, it's wonderful.

Lesser people go for Apple the better, lesser virus . . . . Phew

And this is precisely why the multiple redundancy Flight Control System (FCS), Flight Management System (FMS) and other avionics systems in your modern day airliner are still powered with AMD 29XX/29XXX or Intel 80286/80386/80486 series of microprocessors from the '80s...

... As the last thing any Pilot-In-Command (PIC) or First Officer (FO) in the cockpit will want to see, is this..

Was thinking about upgrading my Core2 dual to their new i5 Qcore (2400) after CNY.... but can't now. Read in the web that production of Intel Sandy Bridge chip won't return to 'normal' till after apr. And there isn't a way to be sure that shops at Sim Lim Square won't sell you a Motherboard that still have the old chip.

Waiting for more info from board makers like Asus or MSI.... need to know the series numbers of those board being recall....

I have a love/hate relationship with Microscoff... Yeah, it is not a perfect system (buggy, virus-infected)...but after so long with it, it becomes part of your "system" that you'll just learn to accept its shortcomings - familiarity breeds fondness... Hmmm which reminds me of a lot of things in life are like that...

Hi Kriegsketten, yes, I can understand your reasoning, familiarity does bring comfort just like an old, comfortable pair of shoes. Having said that, I would like to add that the Mac OS in not invulnerable to viruses but just that the Mac is still a minority system and has not caught the interest of hackers as it lacks the economies of scale. Yes, admittedly I am an Apple 'fanboy'. I love the design of Apple products, their attention to details, like their power contact points, the lift up tabs on the power adaptive for you to wind the wires up, the battery meter on the outside to check the batter status without having to switch on the computers etc. Most importantly, the ease of use. The OS does not ask to many questions like a naggy wife.

Cheers, got to go get a 27 inch iMac.

OMG!!! I've found my lost loves! The 80386s and 80486s!

Next time when I board a plane, I'd put a request to the flight attendants so that I may go into the cockpit to kiss them...

The integrated standby flight instruments are presented to the aircrew with electronic displays. It is not known as a glass cockpit for no reason.

I pity those people who think that Windows blue screens are the cause of software errors.

And having used Linux for 4 years, I dare say that there is nothing compelling about it to warrant end users making the switch. If it's eye candy you are looking for, Windows Aero has more bling than what stock Gnome and KDE desktop environments can provide.

Overclockers will never go with any other OS except Windows simply because:

    - Apple's EFI is locked down much worse than standard OEM BIOS and Asus's motherboards' EFI.
    - Abundance of software OC tools for the Windows platfor.
    - Linux does not respect hardware OC. For years I have been trying to find out why Fedora and OpenSUSE refuses to list my processor speed correctly even after bumping the clock speeds from 1.6GHz to 2.2Ghz in the BIOS.

The only things keeping me from going back to Windows are:

    1) Most Linux distros have development tools already preinstalled into the OS. Makes it hell of a lot more easier to compile source code into executable binaries than on Windows.

    2) Cost. Writing 6 distro DVDs a year is much cheaper than spending $300+ on a Windows DVD.

    3) Software repositories make it easy to install multiple applications with a single text command.

You usually don't get a BSOD from an unresponsive program, you get this instead...

Wow... my baby needs help, time to visit a techie to make sure she gets well from that precise ailment!...

There's a saying... "what you don't know won't hurt you". Here's my addition to that saying: "wait till it meets you face to face, it will only be too late"...
