    Default Credit Card Fraud?

    Hi Guys

Just to check if you guys have such experiences before? Maybe something for you to take note as well when checking your credit card bills. You never know whether any wrong transactions were make on your card without your knowledge.....

Yesterday morning at 2am, I receive 2 SMS indicating that there were 2 transactions of GBP550 and GBP600 on my Standard Chartered Credit Card. Surprised, I call up the bank and was told that these 2 transactions were for a payment to "Coventry City Council". The only thing I know about coventry is that there is a football club there.. ... so really surprised that these transactions were make on my credit card without my knowledge and at a time when I am already sleeping... The call agent inform me that their fraud team will investigate this.

Just call up the bank to get some updates on this. Was told that there is actually another transaction at around 130am on the same day for around $10 (think is SGP) to "fragrance direct". Just google this name and found there there is such a website in UK....

While the bank is still investigating this, I have to cancel this card and to change to a new credit card no... haiii...now all my recurring payments to this card need to be rearranged again....

Not really sure how my credit card was misused in UK or elsewhere even though I have never use this card overseas before. ...hopefully it is not an insider job or something....

Don't think a scammer will use it for a low amount as around sgd 10.......the other 2 transactions may well be scam......lets hope they found out

    Banks do make mistakes........

Have you ever received emails or sms'es telling you your account particulars are not valid anymore, and you need to go to some Standard chartered site (fake one) site to re enter them??

Ya..actually I have the same feeling too. Misusing a credit card for some city council payment or buy some cheap fragrance doesn't seem much of a fraud... maybe it is some technical issue in the bank's system which somehow mix up each other credit cards usage...

Normally the hacker will test ur cc in small amount first before go to bigger amt. Change number is the best solution.

I don't think so, if I were a hacker, before it gets detected that the card is stolen, I better withdraw big amounts first.........

yes there is also possibility there. However, sometime the hacker just exchange CC info from one person to another, when they do this, normally they do not purchase big amount to test the card. latest security by using SMS pin is one of the best solution to avoid such fraud.

ps: hacker has too many CC info, sometime dont know what to buy also..

Ya..I do some online transactions from time to time..but not for the past 3 months though...Actually I only just receive the new replacement EMV chip card last month...So the new card should have a new expiry date and the 3 digit codes at the back....

I read somewhere that if you use a phone with internet capabilities/connection, they can also hack into that phone to get the code!
Best to use an old phone like I do :-)

Best is to use those pin code generators that some banks have........but pin code to your HP is very handy! :-)
