Drop by the shops to try it out. popular model include panasonic lx5, canon g12, canon s95.

Read online reviews to shortlist a few before heading to the stores.

Try reading the round-ups... Also, there are 2 categories of bridge cameras - the ultrazooms and the more rangefinder-styled. Read up online:

Do you want something small yet feature-packed, or are you ok with a more "DSLR-lookalike" prosumer, like Canon's Powershot SX series?
    Exploring! :)

Hi for yr budget canon s95 and panny lx5 are very good choices.

If you expand your budget a bit, you can get Dslr quality (though not really as compact if you get kit 18-55) on Sony nex3/5

I've a G10. There are enough custom controls to learn the basics of photography. If you are looking for something more compact, then S95 will be your choice
