Default Xs-drive

Hello

I have recently purhcased an Xs-Drive VP300 Pro model and went to buy a 40GB HDD to put in there. However I have troubles formatting it. I'd like to know how did fellow users of X-drive go about this?

I used the FDiskAP program that came with it to format one of the drives seen in my computer which is the HD in the x drive (according to the manual) and it wouldn't work. It says the program only works on Win2k and XP of which i tried on both Xp and 2k.

Then i tried to format using Command prompt which also failed as it said the HDD is in use and same error when trying to format it using the windows format utility when u right click on the drive in My Computer.

So now I just can't seem to get it the X drive to work.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

did you do an fdisk on your harddisk? what i mean is to partition the drive first.

I hook it up via some adapters to my desktop and then format it. works great! if you need help, let me know. will help you format it. no worries.. no charge...

No so far I failed to do anything to the hard disk apart from putting it into the X drive.

How do you make a partition? In computer management, I can see it as a healthy drive in RAW format, wholly as a 40GB HDD.

What adaptors did you use to hook it up to your desktop?

Thanks

i used converter that connects between the 40-pin IDE cable to the the 44-pin notebook IDE harddisk.

I disconnect all other harddisks (just in case format the wrong drive).

Then I boot up using a Win 98SE bootdisk.
run "FDISK"
create a new "Primary Partition"
Exit

Reboot Computer with win98 bootdisk
"FORMAT C:"

once formatting is done, unplug harddisk and put it back into your casing.

Note:
====

Your computer cannot be to old as the chances of your motherboard recognising the 40Gb is not there.

I am about to get an Xs Drive. Like to hear from you guys if u lost any images after copying from memory cards? My major concern is the files get corrupted. How is the failure rate?

No probs. Used a XDrive 1 for a 30 day trip in Europe, shot 20GB worth of images and movies. Didn't lose a single file. File copy is a very very mature process, and you can almost bet that it will be successful. I mean, when you copy files to your computer, do you manually re-verify it ? Most people don't. A bigger problem is harddisk failure. This is a real danger, and loads of PC and notebook users face this everyday. So you take your chances when using a device like this.

I think Nixvue is better for me. The verify function they provide at least give me slightly more gurantee then HDD failure
