who are we to decide what one should do first?

at the end of day, if you dont like their questions, ignore them. let someone else answer it.

if nobody answers, maybe he will learn to ask smarter questions.

And, do you think sarcastic remarks in either of those posts help?

    Can't we do this..

    1. Clear the doubt
    2. Advise them to google

Clubsnap is a place for photography although not authority..
Many people look up the forum as the place to seek solution when they encounter porblem with photography

Like I mentioned before, the forum is an open place for everyone to voice their opinions. Everyone can just hide behind the keyboard and type all they wanted because there is a high chances that you won't get to see them in real life. So no matter how silly or stupid the questions can be, it is alright because you cannot put a face behind the nickname.

Who knows, they might be clones just to pull a fast one on members. Who can ever know who is the one behind the keyboard who type all those questions.

If this is in real life, these people might just be listeners and find the opportunities to clear their doubt in more private avenue instead of just shooting it upfront in the forum.

At times, when I read those posts, I was thinking of doing a facepalm or was rolling up my eyes... However, before I do anything, I just close that thread and put it behind me and don't bother about it. Why get so work up over things that other post? Just move on in your life.

When people need help genuinely, offer them. If you don't want to help, just walk away, no one is forcing you to give an answer, are you paid to answer those questions?

Imagine the scenario in real life, a guy walks up to the Information Counter and ask "Where is the ATM?" and there is a signage or direction just beside the counter or on the service desk. Does the service counter ask the guy to see the signage or direct them accordingly even though it is there. OR another example, a guy goes to the Information Counter and ask, "I am hungry, where can I go?". Obviously the food court right? Does the service counter shoot it straight in the face and say that? Or does she give recommendation like, "There is Burger King in B1, there is a Food Court at Level 4..." To her, these questions can sound stupid, but she is paid to do her job. That is the difference.

Everyone seems to take the concept of forum and online persona or nickname so seriously, guys and gals, there is life outside out this screen and keyboard. Don't like it, don't read it, don't bother about it. Move on with your life.

    Which is faster?
    A. Move the cursor, hit the "BACK" button on the web browser 2 times to get that thread which makes you feel so stupid when you answer to be out of sight
    OR
    B. Move the cursor, Hit the "QUOTE" or "Q-Reply" or "Post A Reply" button, then type "Have you use Google?" OR "Do you even bother to use the search function?", then Hit the "Submit Reply" Button

The choice is up to us. Forum has given one each a voice but that does not give us the rights to show abuse to others. Hope you all understand that.

Sometimes, you could be trying to point out that the person is asking very inane questions.

Certainly some people may not see the value in it, but sometimes, it stops them from asking such questions again because they feel that they should do their homework first.

That's not really a stupid question.

Some stupid questions for Information Counters that should be on par with the questions we get here sometimes:

    1) Where is the Information Counter?
    2) Can you tell me how to use the lift?
    3) Is it safe to put my feet on the escalator?
    4) My camera has never been operated in air-conditioning environment, can you tell me if it is safe to use it? Have you seen people using camera inside the shopping center?
    5) I understand some food outlets accept Credit Card, how to make credit card payment?
    6) What is the best food outlet here?
    7) What is the best supermarket here?
    8) There are many shops here, can you tell me which one will be best for me to browse?

Don't forget, being online introduces anonymity - you cite this as the reason for people being nasty. I would like to point out that online, when you don't have a face to look at when asking silly questions, you shoot off those questions more easily as well.

"I going to oversea next week, got no time to read the manual or google for an answer, can someone tell me how to..........."

Is this what we want in Clubsnap?

Before hitting the "Quote" or "Submit Reply" button, read and re-read the words again. Walk off and cool off. Think how does the receiving end feel. Some time, by taking look at the 2nd time, you might not want to reply at all. Who knows.

You are painting my response as an opinion that we should be rude or hateful to such questions.

No, I merely want to convey that the severity of the inaneness of such questions can be boundless. Should we just sit there and mock them? No, but I think some people see the act of pointing out that such questions are inane as being rude.

I think leaving such people alone by themselves is also not the solution. Maybe it is politically correct, but to me, it is comparable to a group of people having a discussion, where one raises a silly question, and the other group just looks blank, before continuing the conversation, or just keep silent forever after that. Is that really a good way to handle the problem either?

Most of the time, people are so contented to just let problems fester. Sometimes, some amount of action, even if it may be viewed as negative, is better than the status quo.

    Dear edutilos-,

If I mis-read your point, this I truly apologize.

I am just citing your opinion about the culture that is in Clubsnap now. It is a good example that it is as easy for people to ask stupid questions and also to shoot off stupid question because anonymity. I am using that point to showcase that if we all be nice, doesn't that make the place better.

If people want to provide action, why not give positive action instead of using negative action.

If by giving negative action to generate negative feeling, then what is the point to that?

In life, we win some, we lose some. It is ok at the end of the day. Just happy and make another person happy. Won't that be nice?

    Have a nice weekend. Enjoy.

No point to argue further like no ending. I have a suggestion for newbie. When you post a question, you may add in a clause "CS member who cannot stand stupid question please stay away". Similar to what we see in the B&S section - "low-ballers please stay away". By doing so, I think the message is pretty clear to all who want to reply the question. This will eliminate harsh and sarcastic replies and also save time for all parties.

I agreed with what Francis247 said. We CS members here are not paid to answer any question. Life is short, but there are millions of things we can do in life. Save your time from posting such harsh and sarcastic words in this forum. You thought can help the newbie better in this way? They don't know who you are and don't need your slam. There are many helpful and passionate CS members to help the newbies. Rather, Your wife, your gf, your kids, your family, your friends or your relatives who are much more closer to you may be waiting for you at the same time to do something meaningful together.

    agree with this....

this is not a right tone to use for seeking for help,
you want somebody to help you, be sincere, be genuine.
if somebody play prank, is his fault and it is not yours,
just move on and let the person be a fool in front of everybody.
if start with a wrong foot, don't blame others feed you with the same thing.
