i've just bought myself a deuter waist pouch for Yunnan trip next week!
Now the question is...what do i use to line the inside of the pouch to make it safer? Anything besides the ready made inserts? |

stuff a towel along the insides of the pouch nicely and snugly..thats the cheapest method for a self-modified cushioning ;-)

If you want to be more hi-tec, you could use hi-density foam. Costs more though...
I use the bubble wrap other people throw away. Lagi cheap! ![]() |

Most foams, when in contact with skin appears to feel hot. Don't ask me why, I dun know. Use a strip thermometre to check its contact temperature if you're worried.
Hi-density foam is simply foam with much, much smaller cells or pockets of air in between the foam. It feels harder while being flexible. It is also a lot heavier (physical weight). Think of it this way...styrofoam is very, very low-deisity foam which has a formed structure, i.e., not flexible. Your foam pillow or mattress (not spring one ah..) is made from much higher density foam than styrofoam. If you're really interested, type in 'what is high-density foam' in any i.net search engine and I'm sure you will find a lot of info. |

How about buying those foam camping maps ? They cost around $4-$7 each and are flexible enough to be cutted into any size you might need. Quite similar to camera bags inserts, should be able to offer quite a good protection.
