Almost "donated" my digital camera to the sea. This is what happened... I always have my A70 (in housing) secured to my right hand and when not in use, I just let it float like a balloon (good thing it floats too).
Went on quite a boring dive at Dayang over the weekend, nothing to take so I decided to turn the camera around to take myself but the strap is not long enough, so happily I unhooked the securing cable to my right hand. And yes you guessed it.. happily let go of it to float like a balloon to clear my mask... just 20 Seconds and its gone, I surfaced after it and its no where to be found ... Sian half way man...all the shots gone...Fortunately some divers are near by and the dive master spotted a floating camera... piang... almost kissed that fellow ...Lessons to be learnt: 1) Never unsecure your camera... 2) Get a longer securing strap... 3) Backup your photos often... The most heart pain part about this is actually the photos that were taken the day before.... So what do you guys use to secure your cameras? I am looking for something longer and more sturdy to secure my A70 in housing... any comments is appreciated.. thanks for listening.. |

Suggest that you get a string/strap that clips your housing to your BCD. Can DIY - cheap cheap. Or get from dive shop - $20-30. I almost lost my camera once when the wrist strap loosened during the dive and the camera floated up up and away.
