I thought Singapore would be about the same if slightly less.

Ah that's the thing I missed most about Singapore, the "select your food with steamed egg, egg tofu and curry chicken with potato" option at the hawkers. Sometimes at the Polys or Unis that's only $3!!
    Enlighten me...

Generally, rice with 3 dishes costs 3-3.50, plus soft drinks another 1.20-130, a decent meal generally costs below $5 at coffeeshop/hawker center in Singapore.
Perhaps costs slightly more eating at foodcourt.

Food here in Thailand is cheap indeed. I think it would be even cheaper in Indonesia.

If possible i still prefer to stay in Hong Kong. The food there is great especially in their typical Tea Room Cafe... with their local delicacies.. and culture, cos I speak Cantonese too..

    most people eat out
it is actually more costly to cook if you are alone
in Sing it is convenient and relatively cheap to eat out

just avoid the "fine-dining" life style psychological trap

the expensive restaurant merry go round is not as great as it seems

    some eat out because --

    they like to
    they have to
they need to entertain and this is Work, not play
they think it is stylish and they want to be seen dining in swanky high end restaurants
they escape the loneliness of eating alone at home
they fancy themselves a gourmets and epicureans

I eat out 95% of the time. I just love the variety of food at hawker centres. Plus I only know how to fry so eating out is best for me to stay healthy.

I would say that 40-50% of my meals are eaten outside, lunch during weekdays and sometimes weekends. Rest are taken at home, cooked by maid.

Around 4 years. I go around a great deal so I always find new eats and I'm never disappointed so far. The choices are so diverse I don't think I'll ever get tired of it even in 10 years time.

Do note that I only know how to fry so hawkers are heaven-sent to people like me.
