Default Ixus430 or Sony W1

Deciding which one to buy. Can anyone here give some comments on the above? Thx. Someone commented that posting in Sony forum might have different comments.

I would buy the W1 for the following reasons:

Newer model
Super fast startup
Super fast focusing
Compact and well built
Uses AA batts
It's a Sony.

but you dun have both right? do you? then how do you compare? similarly if you post it on Canon thread, people would say that the 430 is good because they have it. what i am more interested is the side by side comparison such as noise performance and white balance handling.

No I don't have the Ixus but my friend has one. My limited interaction with it still convinced me that I made the right choice in the W1, though I would say both are probably up there with the best of the compact digicams. Anyway, what I stated in my earlier posting were the reasons why I would buy the W1 and NOT that these features were definitely superior than the Ixus.

Anyway, the choice is always down to your own preference and more often than not, it's brand loyalty that helps make the final decision. Well, for me at least. :-)

If you ask for opinions in the Sony thread, you are bound to get feedback that is biased towards sony.

the W1 as a matter of fact is in my shopping list. But in the mean time, i am still searching for images and reviews, something more substantial to back up the better camera. only then, i can use my preference to select the correct camera.

If you are looking for somebody with both cameras. You should be more specific in your post. Besides you already know both forums have their own fans. There is no need to repeat the facts.

Personal opinion. The IXUS 430 is an unworthy comparison to the W1. The IXUS cameras are slow beyond words can describe. You'll need to compare it to the previous versions of the P series, then again the first generation of the P series. The W1 is in a different league. Unless you are attracted to the design of the IXUS range, you can't go wrong with a W1 or P100.

unworthy maybe too strong

i got the W1, but i agree with bernards with ixus speed..........totally uncomparable to W1............you can actually try out the Cathay's, if you already bank in on either............ask the neutral party there lar.............wun go wrong....................

for point and shoots, there is not best of all , but i find W1 features matching the priceline
