Default Distracted

Taken during the opening of Great Singapore Picnic, the band were formed by Hong Kong and S'pore police

Any comments on the composition? any technique so that i can make a viewer to focus on the subject, that is the man on the right who is looking at the camera?

Kamwai, what settings were you using?

Making the photo have a shallow DOF will blur the background and probably give a bit more focus to the man.

Also, i think zooming in closer on him would give a better pic...maybe up to the old man beside him cos there is enough subject matter to tell the viewer that all the rest are playing the instruments whereas only he is looking at the cam.

Ok just viewed your EXIF info, 1/250s, f4.5...you were using the 50mm f1.8 i presume?

Then you should just shoot wide open...using f1.8...i think that will put the just in focus and blur more of the rest...zooming in will definitely help create more background blur...

i use auto mode...1/250 and f4.5 with a 50mm/f1.8
aiyah...should have use Av mode and f1.8 for shallower DOF

err...my 50mm cannot zoom, but let me go and crop it and post again..

Thanks!

Yeah...now imagine that composition shot with a large aperture...shallow DOF, giving good background blur - viola...
