Default couple of questions re: cf card speeds

ok my F828 is already en-route to me care of FedEx, its being shipped with a 512mb memory stick pro. i'm thinking of getting a second cf card to use as a form of back up in case i run out of memory while out on a shoot.....

i've looked ard and esp on the eastgear website and realised the price range differs quite a bit between the different models of cf cards. now i'm not too tech savvy when it comes to these things so..........with the F828 limiting its read/write speed to 2mb/sec will it make a difference if i get a sandisk ultra II card compared to the lexar WA series or just a hagiwara card will be as good?

or should i wait a bit longer and save up a bit more and hopefully by then microdrive prices would have dropped yet again?

check out http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/mul...e.asp?cid=6007 for CF card speeds. this site documents the speeds of CF under various brands of DSLRs. u can use this to get an idea, in comparison to a prosumer cam like 828.

me no expert on sony cams. but, if 828's write speed is 2mb/s, then either a normal CF or ultra card will do, i guess? the lexar WA cards only works, as per advertised, on some cams with WA support. so, IMO, dun pay for something ur cam can't support.

I'm using the following types of cards on my 828:

1) Sandisk CF
2) Lexar MS PRO
3) Lexar CF WA 40X

In terms of speed, (2) & (3) is noticeable slightly faster than the normal CF. Then again, if you're not in a hurry, it may be more economical to get the normal CF cards at great prices. Capacity wise, do go either for the 512 or 1GB. Not too sure about the microdrives, but i understand they are very fragile.

Only Memory sticks and microdrives allow you to have additional features such as doing a video at 640x480 30fps. Since F828 is plague by buffering problem, I do not think that the speed of the CF card will affect the performance significantly.

Secondly, something about technology is that you cannot keep on waiting. If u wait for the price to fall...something new and expensive and better will be out in the market rendering your 'cheap' product obselete. Get it if you need it.

I am very satisfied with my 2gig MD....enough for me to trigger happy and fast enough for anything else.

Sleeper,

Comparing the Microdrive and MS Pro, I find that the MS Pro gives me slightly better read/write speeds.

Think you should get the Lexar MS Pro 256Mb from Eastgear. Cheap and good.

Default Ultimate Storage for F828

My aim is to get Scandisk 2 GB Memory Stick and 4 GB Microdrive, it would be the ultimate storage for F828 and good for holidays photo taking.

No worries of limit memory storage.
