Question DEE processed images

hi all, just want to know some info regarding using DEE to process D70 images.

i went to read the review posted at dpreview & look thru the sample images. i downloaded one of the image which is like a backlane with a few bridges. it's dark area was enhanced by the DEE in nikon software. the whole pic looked very noisy for a ISO200 shot, even for areas which was brighter, whereas those w/o DEE at ISO200 looked good.

any insight to this? is it the software or the hardware or the nature of enhancing dark areas that caused the whole image to be noisy?

thx.

I tried DEE once, quite liked the after effect at 16% zoom. But as I zoomed in I found the noise was there to pump up the brightness of the darker areas to get the contrast and light.

Think of it as pumping up ISOs to get the light you need, at the same time, noise creeps in.

Since NC is created by Nikon, the same features used within the cameras during higher ISOs would be duplicated by NC as well.

Something like the shadow/highlights in PS CS.

You need to run De-Noise if you pump up the values.

No magic about it. It acts just like pulling up the levels and curves in photoshop. The noise has always been in the shadows, just that it wasn't obvious until u lightened them.

how come it also bring noise up on the brighter areas? shudn't the DEE function brightens up dark areas only? if u look at the sample in dpreview, the whole image is affected, not just the darker portions. how come huh?

its called burning sides la... dun really make much "magic" hhahahaha.....

ISO higher = more grains / grainy....

when its brighten up too much.. the grains juz appear as a sign to tell u that too much post-processing is done lo... too bright the picture, makes the grain very signifant. it happens on flims also... but not on HD flims... haha .. HD flims have super fine grains... tats y they are soo expensive then the conventional flims...
