Thread: dry cabinet for 2 dslr + 4 lens?

  1. #1

Default dry cabinet for 2 dslr + 4 lens?

Anyone can recommend an appropriate size cabinet for the above line-up?
What's the difference between cabinet and box? and also the different cabinet systems?

    Thanks for any enlightenment.

cabinet is electronic, plug into power supply and dial in the humidity and it will do its work like a refridgerator
box is manual, must buy silica gel and fill it in and change it regularly.

for your setup, 30L cabinet is just enough but might be squeezy if you decide to get more equiptment. would advice you to go with 50L for futureproofing

Depending on the size of your lens, just a 30L would be enough, that of course mean you don't have a 300mm or 500mm prime going in there. Difference between a cabinet and a box? cabinet runs on electricity and is more convenient, dry box uses silica gel or other drying agents of your choice.

30L will do.Bodies go into the top and lenses go to the bottom. But if you're planning to BBB more then a 60L or 80L might help...

thanks cleonbus too. Guess I'll now narrow into the 30-40L range.

One more thing I need to clarify which I've heard about but havan got a definite answer. Are flashes allowed inside dry cabinets?

There's no issue placing flash in it.

personally I find 30L being too cramp for 2 DSLR bodies. I assuming you have at least one semi pro size like DSLR and one smaller. If you have battery grip mounted, then confirm will be very tight.

I am using 80L now with 2 DSLR bodies and one compact. Its sufficiently space. When taking lens and camera out, no need to worry about knocking into other items and re arranging them time to time.

may i check with you the rationale for putting the lenses at the bottom?

up to you to arrange, think because the sponge for placing the lens is by default on the bottom. hehe

if your lenses are not large, the smallest size (35? or 30 litre) should suffice.

i have one dslr body, one slr body, sigma 10-20, pentax 18-55, pentax 35, pentax 50, tamron 70-300, pentax 10-17 and one film pns and i can fit it all in with a little bit of space left.

Even the smallest sized dry cabinet can fit quite a bit.

Here are the contents of my 36L dry cabinet:

    - Nikon D300s dSLR
    - Nikon D70 dSLR
    - Fuji S5 Pro dSLR
    - Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM
    - Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF]
    - Nikon AF 300mm f/4 ED-IF
    - Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G
    - Nikon SB-900 Speedlight

It is a tight squeeze, but it fits. Of course, if you have the cash and space, you can always get a larger one.

Get one as big as you can. 80L? As long as you have the space. You can start to collect all kind of lenses.

30 litre should be just nice for 2 bodies & 4 lens. Im using a 30 litre that holds a 500D, 5D2, 18-55,24-70,10-22 and 50f1.8 + some filters. Abit pack if you are not the kind who is gentle as you may knock other items when taking in or out.

buy a bigger capacity and suffer the bbb virus. haaa

    Merry xmas
