I just wonder... what is the significance to us with this updated atomic weight?
I was kinda hopeful that a new stable heavy element was discovered.

Oh no the world is going to end! Arrhhh!!!

Hey wait, it's just some frivolous change in convention, just like when they said pluto was no longer a planet. Scientists should spend their time doing real science, instead of playing with conventions just to make headlines.

The world is really actually square.... it rotated too fast for us to notice so it is round...

Well... I can't wait for them to expand the period tables 10 times more when they start to dig deeper in Mars...

I doubt that there will be any significance of the update to the layman on the street other than being more of a hassle to chemistry students switching over to the updated periodic table? Though definitely it will have more of an impact to the scientific community whereby precise isotopic measurements of any chemical substances to determine its exact level of purity and origin on Earth matter most under certain circumstances.

Is etching the smallest periodic table onto a strand of human hair through focused ion beam lithography considered "real" science?

IIRC, most transuranic elements with higher atomic numbers can only be made artificially since either they have long since decayed in nature or have extremely short half-life?

    Time for mass panic.

You do realise the news originated from a news satire website? So much for professional journalism.
