Dear Sony Jedis
What are the accessories that you think it is not neccessary for F828? Is there any of the below items which you think it is unneccessay to buy? Any feedbacks and comments are most welcome. Sony Remote Control RM-DR1 or RM-VD1 Sony Shoulder Strap Sony Hard Carrying Case (Question : Can it act as an airtight against fingus) Sony Charger AC-VQ50 Sony Leather Case LCJ-FHB Sony Tripod VCT-D680RM Sony Infrared Light HVL-IRM Sony Flash HVL-F32X Sony Closeup Lenses VCL-M3358 ![]() Sony Accessory Kit Sony 1GB Memory Stick Pro Sony Telephoto Lens VCL-HGD1758 Sony WideAngle Lens VCL-HGD0758 ![]() Sony Portable Tripod Kit Sony Battery NP-FM50 ![]() Last edited by King Tiger; 1st July 2004 at 02:05 AM. |

wow top of the unnecessary list would be the Mini Portable tripod. IT would be eaasier to list the more necessary ones?
1)Extra NP-FM50 is a necessity 2)Big Mspro needed to keep shooting(unless CF used) 3)Flash HVL-F32X for better flash 4)in line Remote to prevent camera shake 5)Sony Charger AC-VQ50 would be nicer then charging from the camera. 6)Tele/Wide lens are nice complements but not crucial in my opinion The rest are pretty useless. Sony tripods are pretty poor in quality. Should get a better one.... Would also prefer a crumpler bag instead of the sony bags. |

My lists. All my opinion, not out to belittle anybody.
MUST HAVE Sony Charger AC-VQ50 (There are cheaper third party ones. But I only trust Sony chargers to charge my Sony batteries. Make sense to me.) Sony Flash HVL-F32X (Get an Omnibounce, bounce card along with it. Get also at least three sets of Sanyo rechargable batteries with it.) Battery NP-FM50 (Spare rarely needed, but don't be caught without one.) Should have / Nice to have Sony Remote Control RM-VD1 (Can use with Sony Video cams too. Works like a charm.) Sony Closeup Lenses VCL-M3358 (Cheaper, better to get a B+W set) Sony Telephoto Lens VCL-HGD1758 Sony WideAngle Lens VCL-HGD0758 1GB Memory Stick Pro (Wiser to get CF cards, inthe future if you upgrade to a DSLR, no need to buy again.) Bad Choices / Whatever for? Sony Shoulder Strap (Get the Optech starp, cheap and good. Can unstrap and becomes an arm strap, very practical.) Sony Hard Carrying Case (This is a really stupid buy. Go get a watertight, airtight, all weather Pelican or Sea Horse case for half the price. Probably lighter too. Don't have to worry about scratching the case.) Sony Leather Case LCJ-FHB (Clumsy case. Serves very little purpose, gets in the way too much. Bottom piece good to prevent wear and tear on the bottom of cam, but price too high to justify getting it just for the bottom piece. Go use gaffar tape on the bottom instead.) Sony Tripod VCT-D680RM (Low quality tripod with a remote control. It's a must buy for video cams, but give it a miss for digicams. A cheap $50 tripod with the RM-VD1 will be a more versatile and better set.) Sony Infrared Light HVL-IRM (I don't what this is for. Since the F32X and built-in IR is already very powerful. Maybe can use on my future DSLR for aid in low light focusing? Price is quite OK.) Sony Accessory Kit Sony (Bag is nice, but it's too small. All F828 owners should own a F32X, there is no space for one. The given filter is like a cheap piece of something, absolutley no quality at all, will probably cause streaking. Better off getting a coated UV filter from the other brands. This kit is one of those things that you buy now on impulse, then find out next week it's totally inadequate and throw it aside, left with only a very expensive battery. Sony Portable Tripod Kit (Too small to take the weight of a F828.) Last edited by bernards; 1st July 2004 at 01:08 PM. |

Forgot to add this. Mustafa has got pretty good prices for digicam accessories. Do give it a check when you have the time. Note that most of the Sony accessories are found in the 'B2 ELECTRONICS' section. NOT the 'B2 COMPUTERS' section and not the 'LEVEL 1 CAMERAS' section. If you cannot figure it out, haha, good luck searching.

Heehee. Like I said, not out to slam anybody. I happen to own many of the things I find silly. Found out the hard way by paying for them. :P
Do you actually use the leather case? After opening the top piece, it'll dangle under the cam. Making the whole cam so clumsy. Sometimes, when I get excited, it'll drop off and then must go pick it up. It doesn't even open and close fluidly. Seriously, get the Optech strap. It's very comfortable and can transform. Sometimes, I use it as an arm strap when I am carrying the cam in the bag, can prevent accidental drops when shooting and makes grabbing the cam easier. I am also thinking of getting a monopod. I don't mind getting a good carbon fibre monopod to future proof. (No need to upgrade when I go to a heavy DLSR.) One qestion huh. Why do you need a ballhead with a monopod? You just shift the pod around right? Isn't it more troublesome to adjust with a ballhead on a monopod? Last edited by bernards; 1st July 2004 at 01:41 PM. |

heheh... actually i bought together with it, the guy at CP recommend... anyway, i sometimes do a stunt, stick the monopod against the stair or slope, den its about quite straight, den use the ballhead to adjust, so firmer... sometimes i hope my 3rd leg can make me a tripod....

Ah. That makes perfect sense. I'll take note of this point when I am shopping for a monopod.

The three things that I don't need from Sony would be:
a) hard carrying case b) sony tripod c) leather case As for the charger and batteries, the third party ones works just as well at a fraction of the cost. |

Where is the place to get a good-priced Optech strap? And how much do they usually cost? Thanks for suggestions.

hmm actually i bought the zing strap for F717, find it rather useless.. cos the tripod thread is not like normal SLR which is on alignment with the strap hook.
