  1. #1

Default xbox kinect or ps3 move?

am going to get ONE of these sets for my niece.
    she's about 3.5 years old.

which console offers more kid friendly games?

    any +/- for both sets?

I would say XBox Kinect. It is so much more interactive, especially for a young kid. A small kid may have problem holding on to the Wiimote properly for Wii. No comments for the PS3 Move, as I don't have it.

I got the Kinect recently and it has become my family favourite game console now. It is good for a laugh too. The only thing is there are limited number of games for the Kinect as it is still new.

The Wii is the only one that has a whole range of games at the moment. Most games are also non violent and fall into party games and 'cute+silly' games (very suitable for children) (eg. Raving rabbid series) categories.

Xbox Kinect and PS3 Move are very new. Launch titles are nothing great except for 1 or 2 titles. The good/better games for Xbox is a dance game (Dance Central) which is a niche genre and the one for PS3 are 'dark' games like Heavy Rain, Resident Evil 5 and a sports game (Sports Champion).
There are a few other 'odd and ends' games on the 2 consoles, but I won't even pay money for them (maybe $15 is ok; but certainly not $35-45 for these low end games)

Kinect needs a lot of space, and the game line-up isn't fantastic, kids games or otherwise.

At the current moment, for your requirements, the Wii is still the best choice, IMO.

At the moment, what is available is still quite family friendly. The packaged game Kinect Adventures is a good start to introduce the new interaction with the Kinect.

The other 2 games I bought was the Kinect Sports, which can really give you a good workout (My 5 yr old son complain of leg muscle ache the next day after all the running and jumping, haha...). There are also many mini games that is rather fun. I also had the dancing game, but not all will appreciate this type of game, but it was rather fun.

The best part is when the Kinect replay some clips of you playing after you finish each game or round. You can see how goofy you looked while playing.

Yes, the Kinect sensor need to be placed between 0.6m to 1.8m from the floor, either below or above the TV.

from the kinect demo i saw (never tried, it's a public demo!) the sensor is pretty sensitive. the Wii i can vouch, but it's not really as motion sensitive as the kinect IMHO.

    cheers!

Kinect needs a lot of space and is not too accurate.
PS3 Move is the most accurate, but not many kid-friendly games.
Wii is the best for smaller girls.

Last time, I'm the only who play the xbox, the rest of my family play the Wii. Now with the Kinect sensor added, the Wii is being neglected now.....

Wah! 3.5yr kid only and the games are 'comical'?
    Then just get the PS3.
Heavy Rain - chop off own finger; kill someone; drowning child; -in fact I find it disturbing (not to mention the love making scene -very disturbing)
RE5 - Zombies galore; Shoot off their heads or hack them to bits

I think either of the 2 systems will suffice as a present. They both don't have too many games at the moment. I doubt 'children friendly' genres will differ too much on either platforms when they eventually come out on either system.
