First of all... Q3... We're not talking about Bimmers here...

Secondly, it is not about "better"... but more about being "adequate"... Can Q3 more than adequately handle your gear weights or not? If yes, then M10 is an overkill - extra weight you have to log around for nothing... Bigger ballheads meant for heavier DSLR + lens sets...

Eg...if you carry a D3100 + light lens... Q3 better than Q10 / M10 / M20 anyday... (in fact, given this example Q3 might be an overkill already)

Edit: If you get an M20... means your tripod must be able to handle the heavier ballhead plus heavier DSLR+lens....

    Thanks for your advices

My set up are D300, D70-IR, FM2, and lenses UWA, FE, kit lens, and primes.

In future may add 80-200 lens..

Borrowed 80-200 on the 496RC2, and it creeped. That's why my friends advised me to get Markins, and i did.

From your setup, Q3 "maybe" adequate for your needs, if not, M10 or Q10 (depending on what future lenses or DSLRs you'll be upgrading to. You'll have to monitor on your own.. It is not just about getting rid of creeps... If you upgrade to a heavier ballhead, you may have to monitor if your tripod can handle your new ballhead well - dispersion of vibrations caused by mirror slapping... D300 have mirror lock right?

My advices are just hand-me-downs from the peeps who knows better, so... just passing on the message. They are of no use to you if you don't know your equipment well...

Yes, very true. Must also calculate the tripod weight...

I don't intend to get any newer, and heavier DSLR and newer and heavier VR lenses. Unless humans survived 22122012, then maybe in next 10 years may get 'devalued' d700

As for now, I am quite contended with my outdated gears. Just one more lens to get ... 80-200 .

Looking at your images might help better (sharp or not) provided you know how... calculations doesn't always help. Just saying only okay? Don't take my words too seriously... they are not biblical quality...

I wonder what he was trying to type... If missing only 1 or 2 digits, likeliest is a 'K', but then 2K for a 70-200 VRII lens is also too low, am I right?
