Default How to Make Part of a Picture Color and The Rest Black and White?

I have a pic, taken in full colour. But I would like to have the main subject in colour, with the background in black and white? How can I do that? Is there any freeware that can do the job? Can Capture NX do the job? I heard photoshop can, but I don't have. Please help.

in photoshop, you need to use the brush tool then set the mode to color and select the color white..
whatever you paint over with the brush will become black & white.

use th above if you dont want to play with layers..

Desaturate the pic, use history brush to get back to colour.

Black and white with a dash of colour

For capture NX 2, use the selection brush, if its a small area, do negative selection on the area you want and convert the picture to B/W. All the areas other than the one you select will be converted.

If you want a small area to be B/W, use positive selection.
