D70 with flash enquiry

whenever i use the built in flash or sb800, i notice that i cannot change the exposure mode. it will always be at 1/60 and 4.5.

why?

is it bcos it is at the best exposure?

i am using P mode or AV mode. But AV no use leh, tho i scroll , the setting stays.

When you are in A mode - or P mode for that matter - the camera is choosing the shutter speed based on the ambient light. For the given lighting conditions, the camera is choosing 1/60 as the shutter speed because the scene is dark and the camera will choose the slowest shutter speed (BTW you can change the slowest shutter speed for flash to 1/30 or another value in the custom settings menu).

Only when the scene is brighter will the shutter speed become faster like 1/125, 1/250 etc.

Try it in A mode, at f4.5, with a really bright background and a dark subject with fill flash, you will see the shutter speed go up to 1/500.

If the scene is dark, and you want a faster shutter speed, go to S mode or M mode.

the shutter speeds will change accordingly.

but the aperture always seem to remain at 4.5 no matter what leh in P mode.

when i am not using the flash, it will change to f11 or higher in bright sunny place. but when i am using flash, it remains CONSTANT at f4.5....
