Exclamation Disturbance in the FORCE from the Dark Side (from Digicam to DSLR)

Hi Nikonian

I am currently using Sony F828 digicam, however, the FORCE is strong on the Dark side, and once a while, my thoughts are tempting me to upgrade to DSLR, like Nikon D70.
Where do this temptation come from ? From the dark side? From Nikon ? From my interest? From DSLR?

I start using P&S camera in 2001, I purchase the Nikon 2500 for my honeymoon as I just need a cheap and basic camera for my usage that time.
Eversince, my interest grow as I start taking photo with my Nikon 2500, from Marco to scenery to potraits. Not a pro, but fun and interest in photography as an hobby.

Until the arrival of Sony F828 (8 mega pixel) in begining 2004, which I have more chance to exploite more and more on Aperture, Shuttler speed, Manual, Adobe software, joining clubsnap and so many things and etc.
I believe my interest in photography will grow more and more.

But I am blocking the FORCE to turn to the Dark side, upgrade to DSLR, as I just a Padawan, not sure where to go, where the path to go, what decision to make.

I believe alot of Nikonian whom presently owning DSLR, are at the earlier begining stage, do own P&S camera before upgrade to DSLR.
Believe most of you have came across this FORCE of tempation before.
Do share your feeling.
What make you upgrade to DSLR? any regret before? any mistake done?

Cheers

Lightbulb Lol ;-)

actually its ok to join the dark side. u can start with either second hand D1 or D1H or d100+MBD100 and either sb600 or SB28dx and nikkor AFD 80-200/2.8 two touch and nikkor AFD 18-35/3.5-3.5 and nikkor AFD 35/f2 and kenko pro 2x and either tokina ATXpro 300/2.8 or AFD nikkor 300/2.8. then u wont need to really buy anything else for up to the next 10 years. that is, if u can stay with the dark side for the next 10 years ;-)

Shoot both prosumer (CP4500) and dSLR. Then and now. No diff to me, cuz it doesn't matter on the equipment side. Its the person behind the camera. Yet there are the moments where I'd ditch my S2 for my Coolpix. Its the sense of fun for me.

Better than one that upgrades with 6mths to 1 year right? And hardly upgrade, more like bug fix.

Ignore clive, you just need a body and 18-70DX to start off... the rest can come later.

Hi Espn

Believe you a loyalist of Nikonian.
U mean D70?
Is it worth it? What your own personal rating for D70?

Hey, That's what I thought when I bot D70($$$). Then came 50mm($), 70-300mm($), flash($), tripod($) and lastly a nice strong bag($) to hold these heavy stuff....

But no regrets. I am enjoying myself with the shooting and I am sure you will be pleased when you see the photos.

Go get it.

9.5/10. Only gripe I have is there's not grip. Apart from that, it's an ultimate shooting machine that is catered for the beginners to near professionals casual shooting. Equipped with the AF-S 18-70DX IF-ED (which is NOT a kit lens that can only be used on the D70), formidable. I was truly awed by what Nikon can produce, rather then strip down, repackage and spend 80% of my net surfing time trying to find firmware hacks to get it going good. Image quality, i-TTL & the near-perfect AWB close to what the D2H can produce is already salivating my mouth, if I had the cash, heck, I'd buy one!!!

I'm not a loyalist of Nikon (just HARDCORE), I just spend my money where it's worth. Similarly for others, surely you want to invest in something that's worth investing on than just blindly buying

Wow... so few ah... wanna see what Nikon has done to a few of the Nikon Council members? Heehee.....

In short, know what you want to shoot and then prepare for that direction. People say you need trinity, I say you need to know and understand yourself & what you want to shoot. Portraiture, landscape, etc, a single len can be used for multiple purposes if you use it right. Look at Watcher, 12-24 for portraits & landscape, AJ23, 70-200 for portraits & events. Scanner, 28-70 for street & portraits & events. Knowing your len & your interests will help you save hell lots of cash down the road. Avoid the UPGRADE bug if you can... although I don't deny I myself have been hit 1-2 times by it... hee

Not long ago, you started a thread to form group outing for your 828 users and now so fast u already tempted. No need to believe in the hype. Just ask yrself: do you really need it? Are you constantly shooting under low lighting and needing usable high ISO? IOr are you just facing peer pressure cos everyone seems to have a DSLR and it makes you look less serious in photography without one?

I still stick with my Sony F828 and still in the Sony Jedi Council.
It is just that I observe a few of my fellow Sony users have sold their digicam and upgrade to DSLR. Sometime, once a while, my thought do tempt my souls to upgrade too.
That why I say there is a disturbance in the FORCE from the dardside.

Aiya, I follow my heart one lah, will not follow just because others got DLSR.
Be true to myself, follow my heart.
Will upgrade if I really want to.
However, I do shoot under low lighting condition, but the high ISO in most digicam have a lot noise, that for sure.
So, sometime, may not be happy when I do not see my result in digicam.

So what's the reason for the upgrade? The 828 is reputed to be a very fine camera. All the functions you'll ever need.

I agree. It has many functions, more that what most pple ever need. It is not though you are using a P&S cam that doesn't allow you adjust stuff like shutter speed, etc.

Minoxman, xmen2003

I think you misunderstand my message, I did not intend to upgrade, it just that the temptation is there.
Just as I told shutterfly, I still stick with my Sony F828 and still in the Sony Jedi Council.
Only that a few of my fellow Sony users have upgrade to DSLR. That why I say there is a disturbance in the FORCE from the darkside.
The Force of the Sony F828 is still strong with me. For now.
