the gel will keep everything INSIDE the ziplock bag dry, but my common sense tell me that it has nothing to do the humidity level OUTSIDE the ziplock bag

Poking holes in the ziplock bag might help. Haven't tried it though. or you can probably get a small hp pouch thingy and sew zippers to improvise lol. Try buying a hygrometer to test if this method is working. I saw daiso selling those hugrometer for $2

Ziplock bags are meant to keep things water-free. If u wanna poke holes in the ziplock bag, then probably u dun need a ziplock bag cos it defeats the purpose. Any plastic bag will do.

Btw the $2 hygrometer, is it accurate?

Dry cabinets can be purchased online. Comes with free delivery.

puting hippos or silica gel inside ziplock bags are usually for people who find that the silica gel is too absorbant, and takes in too much moisture that humidity level falls too low, so they wanna slow it down a bit but using ziplock bags, but u have to poke some holds or leave a opening (dont zip it entirely). it works very well for some people.

    Hi,

May I know if the humidity falls too low, will the camera be damage in anyway ?
    Thanks

rubber, leather parts will be harden, discolor or peel off.
the lubricant inside the camera/lens will dry up.

in the end, you need to send them for servicing.

I strongly recommend get a dry cabinet for the peace of mind and convenient.

seriously, the saving of not using dry cabinet, is not justifiable.

I saw Challenger selling a dry box for abt 30+ with the meter..

1 dry box with 1 thirsty hippo should be fine, i think.

Just get the dry cab, spend it once and for all (ok, if you forsee yourself upgrading and adding on to the gears, even better, get something bigger!)

You've spent like >1k (or some even more!) on your equipments and are reluctant to spend a mere 10% more to maintain it with a sound mind? With all your thirsty hippos, gels, box you spent on the long term, you will definitely spend more on long term then just getting a dry cab. Save alittle now, spend alot more long term.

Buy the cab and no need to think about it thereafter.
