Default Backup for D70

Hi,

I am planning for my dream trip to Europe. Of course I plan to bring along D70 w/kit len, 50/f1.8, 70-300/f4 to shoot scenery, people, etc.

I was considering bring a backup camera for the trip, just in case something wrong with the D70 along the way. Was thinking of using film SLR as backup, so that I can use the lens that I have.

Maybe anyone have experience or recommendation to share? SLR? P&S?

Thanks in advance.

I went to Europe 10 years ago, with 2 cameras, thinking like you.
- 1 was stolen while I was sleeping in the train from Venice to Rome.
- 1 was broken after a strong wind in Lisbon.

I'm in Europe now having my dream trip

Just carry a P&S for backup. I'm carrying a film SLR and a prosumer and a tripod now and the weight is killing me on top of the other stuffs I need to carry.

Man, been shooting like mad... been only half a day and have finished 1 roll........ still have 24 more days............. 48 rolls???

Anyway... I wish you all the best for your trip

i think backup equipment will just cause u unnecessary weight, unless you're driving for most parts.

if not, getting up and down train, buses will cause u much hassle. and some buses in europe don't allow u to bring too huge a bag up, so u'll have to leave all your equipment down below for that 3 or 4 hr bumpy ride!

i just spent 4.5 weeks backpacking in spain with a 707, 128mb x 1, tripod and xdrive. good enough, if you be careful.

enjoy!

A PnS and film SLR would do just nice, just a word of caution, gaffer up the parts where it's tell-tale of an expensive tool. Like the D70 or Nikon word on the flash/body.

And no, don't anybody dare start now...

Hi All,

Thank you for all the reply and feedback.

gadrian: I have actually considered D2H and use D70 as backup. CFO will kill me for doing that.

espn: Liked the idea of taping up logos. BTW, start wat?

Brandon: Trust that you aere enjoying your trip now... Cheers...

Forget to mentioned I will have a laptop in my bag to download photos too. Guess I will stick to PnS as backup, film slr means more loads of film, etc. The weight is adding up to >3kg already. Tripod got no place in my bag already.

Need to go fullpack run this evening.
