Default Help on 20-35mm D lense with F5 and D70

This is on of my most used and loved lenses on my F4, but, on the D70 and F5, on autofocus mode it tends to hunt and at times it will be unable to autofocus even at 35mm. I have tried to focus on manual mode, the picture is out of whack!

Just wondering could be in incompatibility issue or need to be re-service by nikon service centre.

Anybody can help me on this?

mmm....maybe time to get the AFS 17-35mm......

Thanks in advance.

The 20-35 f/2.8? I've tested it on the D1x and D100, it works perfectly fine, is the len working on other bodies?

Well I won't stop you from buying the 17-35... heehee

BUY BUY BUY

I don't use the 20-35, just was very lucky to had two friends who owned it, tested one on my own camera and the other on a D1X, had no problems with focusing. The 20-35 f/2.8 was after all 17-35's predecessor... heehee of course it's a love.

Actually try sending in to Nikon for a check up first, if there's a repair to be made then see the charges, if it's fine at least you narrowed down your choices to the defacts. Had a friend who's 18-35 works on his friend's D100 but on his and mine it doesn't, so likely should be a len problem.

If the repair charges aren't worth it, you'll probably be better off with a 17-35 f/2.8, it's pretty pricey now. $29xx from CP.

did u go beyond the limits of the closest focussing distance? if not, then the symptoms u described really sound like technical malfunction

Dude, the only time a 17-35 is going on sale is that the person is giving up photography or changing systems. You won't find the trinity on sale so easily. Heehee.

Send in for ICU first, they won't repair but can do a check to see what's the problem, otherwise drop by Nikon Councils during the weekdays, there should be many D1x/D100/D70 to help you with the len test.

Many thanks ESPN and Clive, I might be popping down to TCW and see how much they retailing the 17-35mm... die la... hair receeding due to excess maggi mee consumptions!!

Urm.. get a new one if need be. Although built to last but sometimes, it's not worth to get second hand

I guess it's your len issue if it can work on one body and not the other. Send in for evaluation first, see what they can conclude and quote you a repair price.

I have the AFD 20-35 and D100, (the D100 and D70 should use the same auto-focus engine and electronic), they work fine for me, no auto-focus hunting.
