First time I hear someone say that. Well, if you find it study and professional... you should stick to it. You will have problems selling it even if you offer $30. maybe some PnS user will buy it from you.
Feels professional, but very bulky... Retracted length is 60cm, too big... But the extended length only 1.5m. And no ballhead...

ok back to serious stuff go T K Foto look at their sirui travel tripods lah
they are quite small mostly below 40cm for the lighter and smaller ones

to go off topic a bit i tend to deem those tripods with those joints loinking the 3 legs to the centre column kinda junk (sorry)

No need. I seen it and touched it before. I have a similar design tripod, much larger and much better made and from a reputable brand too (Velbon)... and I still think mine is junk... It was from the old days... and now I only use it hold my flash indoors and non-windy days.

For an idea of sturdy and professional... the following are examples of sturdy and professional tripods:

The T1205x. If you wanna check out more sirui tripods, try TK foto. They have a huge selection.

But they will not fit your 20cm requirement.

And btw the one in the first link is not that expensive.

But the ones in the 2nd link is very expensive.

Both are heavy as hell. except for the smaller one in the 2nd link.

Many of us carry the tripod on hand during shoots.
Its either you get a camera bag that can hold the tripod externally or you carry it by hand/

Putting it in the bag is not a bad idea but hand holding it while being busy snapping pics with the dslr is a very very bad idea

Then consider getting a decent tripod with a camera bag that has an extrernal apartment to hold your tripod

    Something like this:
    http://www.dirtcheapcameras.com.au/i...pod_Holder.jpg.

The only downside of this technique is that its non-mrt friendly, i usually handcarry the tripod when in the mrt. You don't want to end up injuring someone.
