i usually ask my gf, " so which one are you buying for me?"
so nothing to hide.. seldom get anything also. hahaha
have to hide.. no choice.. if not she going to pull my ear... hahaha
apart from nightmare, how many of us here actually got partner/spouse that is into photography?
birthday give each other lens... anniversary upgrade each other's camera body... valentine's day print special album... vacation destination is chosen based on photographic potential and not shopping opportunities...
SOMEBODY TELL ME THIS HAPPENS IN REAL LIFE SO I CAN DREAM ABOUT WHAT MY FUTURE GF CAN BE
To me, my partner is not into photography, photography actually give me some space for myself when I'm out shooting alone. And i feel blessed that she is very supportive on what I'm doing.
Just don't let her know how much i had spent on gears.

For me, photography is like a pass by journey for me.
Most probably I will be out doing performance tuning for my car..
So no one knows except my friends and mechanic,
And for your info, photography so far isn't the most expensive hobby, maximum for a medium format, around 50-60k. But for automotive modification, it's more than 80k for a track ready monster.
Think fast, aim for the best !
Don't hide any camera purchases from the wife as she's usually standing next to me at the camera shop. Have been lucky that the wife has purchased a DSLR and lens for me.
I hope the replies posted in this thread are spoken in jest only..because if the replies are true, I think you have some problems in the relationship with the spouse.
At the end of the day, you are buying a camera, not dealing in heroin or illegal cigarettes..so I don't see why all the secret agent stuff is necessary.
Perhaps the relationship was not put on a open and honest perspective at the very beginning with regards to photography as a hobby.
Of course, if you have children, I would strongly advise that the needs of the children come first, regardless of whatever passion you have for photography. Photography is no substitute for a family...unless it brings home the bacon.
Some food for thought for all...

Anyway here's an interesting article on cameras and family:
I love my wife.
Photography is only my pasttime.
