I like my mju-II with fuji800. Used a oly c4040 f1.8 but the iso400 is noisy.
Since digi cam advances so fast, any current models to recommend for indoor low light? I'm look for similar size digi cam like casio z40 , pentax s40 , ricoh caplio , sony w1/t1 , canon ixus , Experience users please share...the pro and cons thanks. ![]() |

We're not there yet.
Either you wait for technology to keep improving, and continue to use your mju-II with high ISO film, or you get a DSLR and a fast lens. The closest to your requirement would be a Canon G3 or G5. F2.0 lens, ISO 200 gives you pretty acceptable noise and fast shutter speeds. A little bulkier than what you had in mind, but still pretty compact. Olympus digicams are pretty notorious for noisy images, so I would not use your experience with the Oly 4040 as the gold standard. Last edited by StreetShooter; 23rd June 2004 at 11:25 AM. |

my c4040 f1.8 iso200 is acceptable, but being 2 generations behind, keeping a look out for a new cam should it fail. |

Canon G3 is my favourite. My wife's Ixus400 comes in useful when I need something smaller, or need to go underwater! But the Ixus lens is a bit too slow for indoors.
I also have mju-II, GR1V and Konica Hexar for P&S low light shooting, but seldom use because I find film too leceh, especially waiting to finish a roll, and then must develop and scan in. |

Sony V1 seems to be quite suitable for this purpose - it's AF is relatively fast and noise @ ISO400 looks quite acceptable too. Check out the review @ dpreview.

Buy another mju-II
Seriously, I think the key to the performance of the mju is the fixed focal length lens at f/2.8 ... you'll probably find that the zoom p&s cameras perform badly too. Film is not that leceh, if you don't do the scanning yourself. Shoot a whole roll, develop but don't print, and get it scanned, I think $6 a roll. The difference between the mju and a compact digicam is probably $300, and think of how many rolls you can shoot and scan before you make up the difference. For all other times when you need snapshots and have good light, maybe just use the Oly. |
