DPKR and Cuba are now the only true communist country left after the Cold War. With economic aid from Russia and China reduced, economic sanctions by the U.S, DPKR is finding it hard to sustain their military ambitions and it's population ever since. I'm sure their Generals and military leaders are also jealous of the success their sourthern brothers is enjoying which is why they kept on harressing them every now and them. Hoping that a war or the potential of war can 'blackmail' S.K and U.S into giving them more economic aid.
S.K is no fool, they will not risk an open war with DPKR knowing very well they have so much to lose compared to the North. But how long can they tolerate their neighbours that is the question.

In the end whether the peninsular will have any military conflict will always boil down to one simple factor - $$$! Who has more to lose and who has the most to gain from it.
I guess tolerance always has its limits, and one will not tolerate further if stretch after the limit. Once this line is passed, even if one will lose more, they will still fight for their right.

If, I say if, DPRK and SK goes into war, who will have a winning end?
    Kind Regards

The way I see it, S.K will only have a war with DPKR if i) they bomb their capital SEOUL ii) assassinate the S.K President.

But if they do so then its closest ally CHINA and the whole world will definitely take the position of condemning DPKR's action and offer them no further support in the ensuing conflict. DPKR needs PRC's support to have any chance of lasting the war against S.K and U.S.

At present, other than raising it's military alert and having joint military excercises with the U.S, there is no indication that any further military actions to retaliate against the North, much like the previous sinking of the warship incident.

Actually, NK did try to assassinate a SK president many years ago.
One time was they bombed a plane but the president wasn't in it.
Another time they actually dug a tunnel from NK into Seoul and assaulted SK's Blue House (SK's White House equivalent).

One wonders why they'd have the capital city so close to the NK border?

    lastest news :

The previous minister, Kim Tae-young, resigned after criticism that he was too slow to respond to the attack on the island of Yeonpyeong.

we can see lot of cases like this, at peaceful time they sit back and relax and collect pay check. at crises time, they resigned..

Haha... This minister not tough enough. Should step aside earlier before the real crisis comes about.

Actually correction. China WILL support DPRK in the event of a war with S Korea. They might not do it openly but they sure will be supplying them with weapons and other means of aid. They might even move entire divisions in to assist asking them to repeat what they did in the Korean war, act as "volunteers".

Reasoning? China will never allow a united Korea under S Korean's administration which it sees as a proxy of the USA which in turn China sees as its biggest threat. An united Korea will mean USA at China's borders, something China doesn't want.

The reasoning why S Korea has been restrained in its responses and to be honest the Defence Minister was just acting as the fall guy. There is nothing S Korea can do about the North. Remember the ship that was torpedoed and 40 over sailors died? For all the talk.... China blocked all efforts to bring North Korea to trial... and S Korea could do nothing and USA and the world will not want to offend China, the largest market in the world. Also it helps for the North that they have estimated 300 over thousand artillery and rocket launchers aimed at Seoul. One order from Kim, all salvos fire at once... short of nuking the border... there is no way anyone even the USA can stop all 300 000 over shells and rockets flying over the border and literally flattening Seoul...

This could easily turn into a World War.... and China might even take the chance to make use of the confusion to invade Taiwan and take it back...

The whole problem will be solved if the leadership in China changed their perspective. I dun think the young generation in China will care about North Korea, they just want good life with money, status and material comfort. In future, NK will be abandoned by China when it has no benefit to their country interest.

Mmm well I see it differently the younger generation are empowered and fanatically loyal to the "motherland" just look at the recent Anti Japanese riots. All it needs is to change the story around and make Korea a historical part of China and viola... every excuse to absorb them into the "motherland" In fact the China of today is a very scary China...
