I have been looking over all those versions (1st, 2nd, 3rd:AF-S) for the past few months - read reviews, etc, etc. Way before I announced my decision to go for the current lens. I've even contemplated on Sigma's 70-200mm... Reviews read and re-read... One of the main reason why I went towards 70-200mm VRII is because of its ability to accept TC20E III (doubling the zoom for other day-time photography activities with the TC) while still able to take sharp pictures by itself at 200mm... It is the synergy of this two items that pushed me to end up with both... And why I didn't go for the 80-200 instead, simply because its reach can't be extended to the maximum available length (400mm).

Some of you may think that it is a waste to get the TC III... I concur with your views. But in light of not wanting to keep TOO many lenses and all those boxes that you need to find storage for, I simply went for the compromised... No doubt, for that amount of $$$ some of you would rather go for the D700 or its replacement... with left over for other cheaper but good zooms.

Yes, I've admit I wasn't too patient for a good priced second hand set to fall, but I felt that the time draws near that I can't put off that decision any more... as I still need practising before the big day (which is today and many more days to come).

My needs are simple (though quite ex), go for the widest and more versatile UWA zoom... one lens for work, and the longest and most versatile zoom (within MY budget), plus maybe a f/1.4 prime or two... and that's it... So far i've not regretted any of the decisions. My dry cabinet remains manageable, and I'm almost reaching my "dream team"...

If my purchases have made many of you uneasy, I shall refrain from any open discussion of lens purchases on my part. That should make the water surface more calm... okay?

    Now back to more BSing...

C'mon guys, why did u think this thread is called the "poisonous clubhouse"? We're here to poison each other silly! That doesnt mean we would force or coerce others to get the gear we are poisoning him on (although it may look that way with all the "BBB " being thrown around ). We've had the UWA phase, speedlights phase, tripods phase, now is just the tele/zoom phase. To each his own, no need to over-think it. You're happy with your decision/purchase/dream lens, we're all here to support (and possibly molest ) whatever new toy u decided on.

PS; not refering to anybody in particular, ok? Moving on..

    Morning peeps!!

Aiyah, no worries bros... it's probably me too tired last night and getting all emo because of that.

Frankly, poisoning each other about lenses and bokehs are ok with me, provided it's just that. It's all the little-little add-on notes that comes along with a few posts - maybe I've misread and misunderstood, the vibes (as a whole, not pointing at anybody) I'm getting seem to be like "hinting" (I use a "softer" word) at me for going for the current setup is, well..."not wise"...(for being unable to find the right phrase)... I know everyone have rights to say anything, but please also respect the rights of others to hold differing (even though debatable) opinions.

If I'm misreading everything and getting over emo for nuth'n then fine, I apologise for causing the unnecessary tension. Ok? As I've said, I prefer to open up my thoughts rather than holding it back in case of misunderstandings getting any deeper. It is better to clear it up than keep it inside.

    Lets move on!

ZCA, hope you find the TT SW bag suitable. It is smaller (not as deep, and not as tall). If you don't plan to get any lenthy zooms, I think the SW (non pro) is a better option. I'd go for that, since no battery pack/no lengthy zoom. For me, no choice - you know what I mean. I've tested my set up already, DSLR + 70-200 + Mk III TC, with hood extended - fits just nicely with a bit of room left... Don't think I can do that with non-pro, height isn't there... Going out to shoot means I just need to drag it out, out with the lens cap and I'm ready...

Btw, if you plan to get SB900, no problem if you fold it up into an "L" shape - just re-adjust the pads to make more room for the height.

Monopod fitting is not a problem also - you can use the side pockets - make opening at the top, stick the monopod in, use the tripod straps provided and use it to fasten the top end of the monopod (ballhead on) so that it doesn't come off... It worked for me. No need to use the usual tripod arrangements.

TT SW / SW Pro rocks... luckily it came with raincovers... just happened that I was caught in the rain recently without an umbrella - quickly slip it on and you walk in the rain with a peace of mind...

You're welcome. Keep in mind the shoulder strap paddings. While you may not max out your load, but in case you need to that is. For me, if it wasn't for the extra paddings I'd have been more tired than usual...
