It is certainly a very capable camera.

    D7000 + 18-105 kit
    Tokina 11-16/2.8
    Nikon 35/1.8
    Nikon 50/1.8
    Nikon 85/1.8
    Nikon 70-300VR
    SB900 flash

Just nice with some left over for dry cab and accessories.

And D7000 is good enough... especially when it can almost match D3 in noise performance at ISO6400.
Some very good advise here. Buying a good APS-C camera and lenses spreads out the money better than getting a FF just for the sake of it and thinking that FF means 'best' (which it is not).

As a newbie in DSLR cameras, I am in a dilemma on whether I should buy the top of the line Camera - ie. 5D Mark II.
I have a reasonable budget of around 5.5K for the Camera Body with a Prime lense and an Ultra Wide Lens.
As recommended, a 85mm 1.8 Lens match with another Ultra Wide 17-40 f4 Lens with a 430 Cannon Speedlite.
Land pictures....hmmm... you like to shoot the ground?? Maybe landscape photos? The uwa 17-40 and 16-35 f2.8 are the lenses you will want to consider.

    85mm f1.8 and a 430 speedlite...events, portraits shoot??

It does seems to make sense to "spread" out the money for more lenses. I personally feel it still depend on exactly what TS is after and what he wanted to shoot. I have seen some people who are just happy with just one lens. So, in this case, he will probably have lots of white elephant sitting in the dry cabinet.

    Hi Rashkae,

    Thank you for the advise.
I was wondering if it is advisable to buy lenses from HKG or the US?
I realized from the website that lenses are cheaper in both HKG & the US.

A good friend of mine lives in HKG and comes back to Singapore several times a year.
Was thinking of asking him to bring back some lenses for me.

My another Buddy's of mine is also coming from the US this December and in a week's time, there will be a Black Friday Sale in the US during the Thanks Giving week.
Was also considering buying some lenses from the States.

Would there be any concerns on buying lenses from either HKG or the US?
    Appreciate if someone can advise.

    Cheers,

    Anthony

You might also realize that there are other options than just Canon and Nikon that may help you stretch your budget even further. To me, I would suggest a lower-end, cheaper body (not necessarily entry-level) but invest in good lenses.

Your main concern will be warranty.

    Hi Coolthought,

Just my little mistake for mentioning "Land" pictures...
I started taking photography abit more slightly more seriously when I started taking Underwater pictures while I was doing Scuba Diving...
Thus, referring "Land" pictures was anything photography done out of the water...

My interests would be Landscapes, Still-Life, and Portraits

    Cheers,

    Anthony

oic. Anything and every other thing that is shot on dry land..... that is quite a lot of genre to cover..... Then probably you might want to go with DD123 and pinholecam recommendation for an asp-c camera. Just like to add, start with the kit lens 18-105, then as you go along with this hobby, add lens when you need them.
