I meant the $$$ in my pocket... They always wanna charge the whole 1 year's worth of membership instead of recurring charges for quick profits!

My contract with Singtel is 2 year.... for SingNet is 2 year... for my National Geo Mag is 1 year.... so why do you think Flickr (Yahoo) should do difference ??

As I said before if you just resize your photos to a smaller but still easily viewable resolution you can save on the file size and you don't really need a pro account for flickr. Most screen resolutions go up to only full HD resolution (1920X768), and you really don't need images larger than that for viewing, otherwise they would load quite slowly, and people would also need to scroll around their screens to view your photos.

If you're just using flickr as a platform to showcase your images to potential clients/other viewers and not for pixel peeping or backup purposes, a normal account would do.

Ya but they charge the full 36 mths in 1 time, instead of the phone bill, which charges by every month. Which do you prefer, pay $100 now and risk getting swindled or pay monthly for 12 months, each $8?

Like that people will hop around carriers, which makes their business very troublesome. You will just end up paying more since they need to do more work. Possibly from $100 per year to $50 a month.

BTW is there such a web hosting company that has a shop and they send bills to my address and I pay monthly? I definitely won't mind going all the way to their office

If you need to know... I prefer Flickr pays me back for using their service... but like you said earlier, Pigs Don't Fly.

What I prefer matters little when I need to use their service....

Btw... Flickr does sell membership under 12mth, 24mth, 36mth. So why MUST you get the more $$$$ 36mth membership. If don't feel like paying Flickr.... then just use the non-Pro version or other hosting site.

btw you still need to register a domain name that required a yearly fee.

Not necessarily, .info pages are domains are free (not very sure whether can use for commercial purposes or not though)

Anyway if you are confident you can get clients, I don't see how a small fee to get a reliable hosting and stuff is that significant.

There are some local hosting companies, but they'll also tie you in to a yearly contract. Call them up and ask if they can give you monthly bills.

1 year contract is about $60. 2 years is $100. Monthly is $25.

So your concern of flickr pro is about the costs?

I think a yearly subscription is about 40+ SGD, that shouldn't be considered a lot.

As for the portfolio, its true that an event can have more than 400 pics; but it would be to your advantage to select only the best few to showcase, besides I don't think potential clients want to view so many pictures.

Most ATM cards nowadays have a Mastercard or Visa debit function too.

and if you are too young to have a CC, maybe you should ask your mom for help.

Then isn't this a problem between you and your parents.... what does Flickr charging at least 1 years membership had to do with anything ??

Then its back to what others have suggested,

    1) use the free non-pro flickr account (or other free hosting)

And since free hosting are quite limited in their spaces,
    2) Be selective on what you upload
    3) Resize your resolution

Arikyeo, I would like to be honest and tell you that you are really lucky to have people even bother to reply to this thread and entertain your wishful thinking.

I use Zenfolio for my hosting.

I am purely just answering your Thread Title = ''What web host do you use for your portfolio?'' May I suggest you change your title to -

''Someone sponsor my web hosting please?''

Having the fear to use a credit card does not prove that you dont have funds for this. You give me the cash, I use my credit card to pay for you. How does that sound? Other members have offered you many viable solutions. Taking it up is your choice.
The sooner you get it, the longer you enjoy it.
    I welcome you @ www.benaw.zenfolio.com
