    for Sigma, some of the lens have HSM and it is equivilent to Canon USM...

    i am looking at Sigma 24mm/f2.8 ($300+) or 24mm/f1.8 ($500+), i guess Canon's super wide is abt twice the price?

    note that only 24mm/f1.8 use internal focus, the f2.8 version is like 50mm/f1.8, the lens will move in and out during focusing...which i dun like

    but these super wide prime lens gives very little distortion compare to those super wide zoom lens, btw, 24-70/f2.8 is $600+, but since i already have a 50mm/f1.8, so i dun think i should overlap with a 24-70

    there are even wider lens like 20mm or even 8mm...but i am not sure of the price

    anyone can recommend Super wide prime lens from tokina or Tamron too?
    The Sigma 20mm f1.8 is around the 600 price range too i think. Ask reddawn, he has one. I tried it before, i like it!!!!

    My ideal would be a 14mm and a 20mm for my wide.

    less time for *snap snap* : (

    i was thinking of getting the canon 28-105mm II usm, i got a offer of $310. but afraid the 28mm in d30 is not good enough for close distant *snap*

    any advice?

    btw, heard you got d60 on hand.

    congrat!

    There is a lot of diff! Ask Doc abt it....

    Anyway, if you shooting wide, I suggest you get something like 14-20mm. Presently, I'm using the Sigma 15-30 and I love it a lot.
    *Thanks to Simon*

    28mm * 1.6 = 45mm
    24mm * 1.6 = 38mm

    Go figure, the 4mm in width really helps out a lot!

    Err.... ok ok..you are forgiven!
    hehehhehhee

    Btw, I got the D30 lah!
    And I think it wiser to save up a bit more to get a 20mm prime lor! 28mm on the D30 would become abt 44.8 which is what a ~50mm might do for you lor and if you think that a 50mm for close-up is abt there then ok lor.....

    Whoaah...someone got D60 already??? Man i really feel old with my camera...hahaha.

    Looks like the D30 users are really getting O-B-S-O-L-E-T-E...

    Wait till the Nikon D100 comes out, we will be ancient. sigh.

    OT: I tried the 1D at AP just before i left for Tibet. Conclusion: Shldn't have tried it.

    no lar..bluestrike got a D30...

    wonder how many D30 user are here now?

    unlike tele, 4mm at wide angle make a lot of different, esp for DSLR, this 4mm will become 6.4mm already

    look..simon is upgrading his 17-35L f/2.8 ===> to 16-35L f/2.8

    only 1mm different...

    24mm * 1.6 = 38mm
    20mm * 1.6 = 32mm (abt $600++Sigma, $500++Canon)
    15mm * 1.6 = 24mm (15-30 ~$900++)
    14mm * 1.6 = 22.4mm (~$1.4k)

    So you see, if you really want to take wide angle shot, it best to go for the 20 and below range. Anything above that will be like using a 35mm PNS to shoot lor and I think the best value for it wil be the 15-30 liao lor! Or at least the 20mm.

    Just my $0.02

    Sigma is 1.8 while the Canon is 2.8 and thing to note is that the Canon is smaller in size. it a + and - thing...

    ic...then i will rather get canon if i really want to get 20mm

    sigma one is HUGE, i tried 24/f1.8 and the filter is 82mm!!

    IMO, i dun think i need such big aperture for wide angle, i can increase shutter by 1-2 stops to compensate, since wide angle dun suffer so much from hand-shake as it is lighter. theortically, i can use as slow as 1/20s for a 20mm rite?

    I will rather spend the $$ for a tele zoom with bigger aperture, cos a faster shutter speed is required if u use handheld at tele end (eg at least 1/200s at 200mm), therefore I will need a bigger aperture to allow me to take at 1/200.

    Thatís the main reason why I dun want 28-105/f3.5-4.5 & 28-135IS/f4-5.6 and go for 70-200/f2.8 instead

    Canon 20mm f2.8 USM (72mm filter thread) is abt $700++
